Be it known that I, JOSEPH F. EUHR, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Detroit, in the county of Viayne and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful :improvements in At-4 tachments for Drillingl Machines, of which the following is a specification, reference be-v ing had thereinto the accompanying drawings. ,Y Y ,Y
This invention relates to a -tool actuating attachment for drilling machines, and my invention aims to provide a simple and cth-- cient attachment whereby the direction of rotation of a tool holder may be readily reversed, so that the tap, bit or drill may be driven in a desired direction and when the direction of rotation is reversedfthe tap, bit or drill may be removed from a piece of f. work.
My invention further aims to provide a bit and tap chuck that is applicable to vari-` ous types of drilling machines, the chuck in Vits various form including an adapter associated with end thrust and lateral antifrictional so that there may be a uniform and easy transmission nof power from the drillin@ machine to the chuck.

Considering Figs. 1 .and 2, the reference numeral 1 denotes al cylindrical socket or housing having a bearing chamber 2 and a reverse gearing chamber 3, said bearing chamber `having its outer end closed by a plug or cap 4 screwed in the upper end of the housing 1, and the outer or lower end of the gear chamber 3 is closed by a plug or cap 5 screwed in the lower end of the housing 1 and held against accidental rotation therein by a set screw 6. l y

Again referring to the gearrivheels 14, 15 and 20, constituting a substantial reversing gearing for the tapping chuck, the three gear Wheels may be mounted in a holder 40, as shown in Figs. 6 and T, said holder surrounding the clutch and constituting' a spacer between the upper and lower gear This holder may be a. die casting and a bench assembled structurethat may be readily mounted inthe socket.
