FREDERICK SCHRAUDNER, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI, ASSIGNOR TO GUS V. BRECHT BUTOHERS SUPPLY CO., OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI, A CORPORATION.
HANGER FOR OVERHEAD RAILWAY-TRACKS.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDERICK SGHRAUD- NER, a citizen of the United States of Amen ica, residing at the city of St. Louis, in the State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hangers for Overhead Railway-Tracks, of which the fol lowing is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
My invention relates to a hanger for use in the support of the rails of overhead railway tracks upon which are operable carriers by which merchandise may be conveyed from point to point in factories, stores, and other places.
The object of my present invention is to provide a hanger of the kind named in which the parts are adjustable relative to each other, thereby permitting of the overhead railway track rails being suspended at various elevations according to different requirements; such, for instance, as that necessitated by differences in the heights of ceilings in buildings from which the track rails are suspended.
Figure I is a side elevation of my overhead railway rail hanger. Fig. II is an enlarged view, partly in side elevation, and partly in vertical section. Fig. III is a rear elevation of the lower end of the hanger. Fig. IV is a horizontal section taken on line IV-IV Fig. I, and looking upward from said line, as indicated by the arrow crossing said line. Fig. V is a horizontal section taken on line V-V Fig. I. Fig. VI is a horizontal section taken on line VI-VI Fig. I,
In the accompanying drawings :-l designates the suspension rod of my hanger, which is preferably made of uniform diameter from end to end and to which, therefore, the parts that are applied to the suspension rod to be hereinafter enumerated may be readily applied at any point throughout the length of the rod, either in the length in which it is originally made or in any length less than its original len th occasioned by cutting off a portion of t e rod.
2 designates a head block or top block that is adapted to be secured to a beam or other substantial member in the ceiling of a build- Specification of Letters Patent.

ing by suitable means, such as a lag screw 5. The block 2 is provided with a sleeve 3, into which the upper end of the suspension rod l is fitted to be held therein by set screws l that are mounted in said sleeve and which are adapted to bear against the suspension rod to connect it to the head block. I preferably employ two of the set screws 4, as seen in Fig. IV, and which are set at angles to each other, but any other desirable number of set screws may be employed.
6 designates the foot block of the hanger to which the overhead railway rail A is secured by any suitable means, such as a bolt B that passes through the rail and the legs 7 of said foot block. The foot block 6 is provided with a bore of approximately the size of the diameter of the suspension rod l and in the foot block are set screws 8, preferably arranged in a manner corresponding to the ar rangement of the set screws 4 in the head block 2, as seen in Fig. VI.
9 designates a brace that is adapted to be secured by suitable means to a member ofthe ceiling in a building near the head block 2 of the hanger and which extends downwardly and to the suspension rod l near its lower end.
10 is a binding collar iitted to the suspension rod l and provided with an extension containing a pccket 11 adapted to receive the lower end of the brace 9. In the extension of said collar is a set screw 12 that is adapted to impinge against the brace 9 and hold said brace clamped between the screw and the sus ension rod, as illustrated in Figs. II an V.
I claim A hanger of the character described comprising a hanger block formed with a sleeve, a suspension rod supported in the sleeve, a foot block for carrying a rail adjustably secured to the suspension rod, a brace, a binding collar, through which the suspension rod is inserted, formed with a pocket for the brace and adjustably secured upon the latter.
FRED. SOHRAUDNER.
