Thisinvention relates vto an improvement in mixingmachines andmore particularly to a machine ,for mixing stock food.
Cotton seed hulls mixed with a small percentage of cotton seedy,y meal is extensively used in'this country as a stock food and the principal object of thelpresent invention is the provision of ya simpleandcompact machine for'mixing stocklfood of this character, by the use of which the ingredients which are to form the mixture maybe mingled in the proper proportions, ythoroughly mixed, and then conveyed to any desired point.
Other objects of the invention will be apparent from the detailed description hereinafter when read in 'connection with the accompanying drawing forming a part thereof, wherein a convenient embodiment of the invention `is shown. f

Communication between the interior of the mixing drums D, D and the discharge spouts d, d thereof is normally closed by means of a pair of slides d, d which normally lie across the upper ends of said spouts but which may f at any time be withdrawn to permit the material within the mixing drums to be discharged into the' conveyer casing E. Journaled within the frame A and extending transversely thereof is a shaft F which passes f" axially through the mixing drums D, D. Secured to said shaft within each of the mixing drums D, D are a pair of collars f, f from which extend a plurality of radially disposed arms, the outer ends of which are with mixing blades or paddles f o any desired type, the arms on the two collars being preferably arranged instaggered relation.
While the shaft F has been described as provided with two sets of mixing arms, it is obvious that any other arrangement of mixing arms or blades may be utilized. Communication is aiforded to the interior of the mixing drums D, D by means of hop ners d2, d2 which are secured to the tops tiereof. The walls of the hoppers d2, d2 are inclined and the outer wall of each of said hop ers is of such a height and is so positione with reference to the weighing ho )per positioned thereabove, that when the 1b weighing hopper is released it will while in an inclined position contact with said outer wall and constitute therewith a chute for directing the material from said weighing hop er into said mixing drum. The inner wal of each of the hoppers of said mixing drums is positioned slightly beyond the inner wall of the weighing hopper positioned directly thereabove, so that none of the material from said weighing hopper when the bottom thereof is released will be deflected over the top of said inner wall.
G designates a power shaft which is journaled in the upper ortion of the frame A and extends transverse y thereof, to which rota- 1Cprovided ottom of said i tion is designed to be imparted from any suitbranches leading to the upper ends of the weighing hoppersB, B, through which the material is designed to be introduced into said hopper.
In the use of the device7 di'erent portions of cotton seed hulls and cotton seed meal, a comparatively small amount of the latter being used, are fed to any desired extent to the hoppers B, B through the chute B and the doors of the hoppers are then actuated to permit the material to ass into the mixing drums D D, the doors o the hoppers B B being immediately closed so that the hoppers can be reiilled while the previous charges are being mixed. The material is allowed to remain in the mixing drums until the cotton seed hulls and cotton seed meal or other ingredients have been thoroughly commingled, after which time, the slides d/ cl are manipulated to permit the thoroughly mixed rnaterial to pass to the conveyer E by which it may be carried lto any desired point.
I/Vhile I have described two weighing hoppers and two mixing drums which are used in conjunction therewith, it is obvious that only one or any number of said hoppers and mixing drums may be utilized if desired.
I do not desire to limit myself to the preoise form and construction shown in the drawings as it is obvious that many minor changes might be made thereto Without departing Jfrom the spirit of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
I claim:
In a device of the character described, a frame, a weighing hopper suspended therein and provided with a hinged bottom, and a mixing drum positioned below said weighing hopper and provided with an inlet hopper having an inclined side wall adapted to be engaged by the hinged bottom of the weigh: ing hopper when the same is released, a conveyer casing positioned below said mixing drum and communicating therewith, a conveyer in said casing, and a valve for controlling the passage of material from said mixing drum to said conveyer casing.
