EDWARD H. MoILVAIN AND JAMES A. KEY, OF OLATHE, KANSAS.
FOLDABLE CLOTHES-RACK.
Application filed January 29, 1909.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, EDWARD H. MolL- VAIN and JAMES A. KEY, citizens of the United States, residing at Olathe, in the:
county of Johnson and State of Kansas, have invented a new and useful Foldable Clothes-Rack, and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The invention relates to a foldable clothes frame and has for its object to provide a simple, inexpensive and durable device of this sort adapted especially for use in drying clothes indoors and out of doors and which can be conveniently folded into a compact body and laid aside when not in use.
The main object of the invention is to provide a device ofthis character embodying the most practical and simple forms of mechanlsm.
Another essential object of the invention is the reduction in cost in the manufacture of the same which is accomplished by the elimination of hinges and other irons.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter shown and pointed out in the claim.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a side elevation of our clothes frame shown in operative position. Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the device in aclosed position. Fig. 3 is a plan view showing the top and wings cut off.
Referring to the drawings 1 and 2 designate the legs or main frame members of the device provided with a plurality of rungs. Said members or legs are connected t0- gether by a pivot 3 at their top, as clearly shown. A wing frame 4 of similar construction to the legs or members is pivotally con- Specification of Letters Patent.
position.
Patented May 25, 1909.
Serial No. 475,026.
nected with each of said legs by a pivot 5, the lower ends of the wing frame being beveled to form suitable abutting points.
When the device is in an open position, as shown in Fig. 1, the lower end of each wing abuts against the leg opposite to which it is pivoted, so as to be held in an oblique The lower ends of the wings 4 overlap each other and are connected together by a pivot 6, so as to fold and unfold together.
When it is desired to use the device as a clothes rack, the wings 4 are pulled down- I ward, which causes the legs to spread and the device is then ready for the reception of the laundered clothes. When it is desired to fold the same, the wings are simply pushed upward and that purpose is accomplished.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is A clothes drier consisting of a pair of supporting frames having their end members pivoted together at the top thereof, a pair of auxiliary wing frames having their end members formed with beveled lower ends pivoted to each other and to the end members of the supporting frames upon opposite side thereof whereby the beveled lower ends of the end members of the auxiliary frames will abut against the inner sides of the end members of the supporting frames when said frames are expanded.
In testimony whereof we have signed our names to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
