To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS E. MoKENNA, a citizen of the United States, residing at East Orange, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Damper- Regulators, of which the following is a speci fication.
The invention relates to improvements in damper regulator controlling devices and has for its object the providing of means whereby the air fines or dampers in a furnace may be opened and closed automatically at any predetermined time.
In the following is described in connection with the accompanying drawings one embodiment of the invention, the features thereof being more particularly pointed out hereinafter in the claims.
In the drawings Figure 1 is an elevation of a furnace illustrating in connection therewith the damper regulator, showing the manner in which said regulator may be placed in close proximity to said furnace. Fig. 2 is a diagrammatical illustration of a dwelling or other structure showing the manner in which the damper regulator may be placed at any suitable locality in said structure. Fig. 3 is an enlarged face elevation of the damper regulator, and Fig. 4 is a vertical sectional view on the line AB of Fig. 3.

1 designates a furnace provided with base or ash pit section 2 heating or fire pot section 3, and steam dome 4, said steam dome and furnace having associated therewith pipe connections 5; feed door 6; ash pit door 7, and draft damper 8. 9 indicates a chimney pipe connection provided. with damper 10 and damper lever 11. Said furnace may have associated with it the automatic diaphragm steam damper control shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings as at 12, but it is not necessary that said damper control be used in connection with the herein described apparatus.
13 indicates a lug fastened to any suitable portion of the steam dome 4 of furnace 1 and has pivotally mounted therein a bell crank lever 14 provided at each of its respective ends with reception eyes 15, adapted to receive chain 16 connecting with draft damper door 8 in ash pit door 7. The rear side of said lever 14 has slidably mounted thereon a weight 17 adapted to act as a counterweight for draft damper door 8, and pivotally connected near its outer end a rod 18, the lower end of said rod being pivotally connected with lever 11 of the chimney damper control 10. The extreme inner end of said lever 14 receives one end of chain 19 which passes upwardly over pulleys 20 mounted on ceiling or beam 21 of a structure, the other end of said chain 19 being fastened to operating rod 22 of the damper control 23 as at 2 1.
Damper control 23 comprises a foundation board or structure 25 having mounted there on bearings 26 adapted to receive said operating rod 22.
27 designates a pawl pivotally mounted on foundation structure 25 as at 28, one end of said pawl engaging lug 29 on rod 22 and the other end thereof engaging lug 30 on actuat ing lever 31 also pivotally mounted on board 25 as at 32.
32 indicates a bearing mounted on foundation board 25 provided with an elongated arm 32 adapted to act as a stop for the movement of actuating lever 31 and a guide for replacing or resetting pawl 27 in lug 30. Itod 22 has cast therewith a guide lug 32, the object of the same being to reset or replace pawl 27 in its normal position when desired.
is a spring having one of its ends fastened to board 25 and the other end to actuating lever 31, the object of the same being to hold the actuating parts of the damper regulator in its normal position. Lever 31 has formed therein a striking head 34 in direct alinement with trip hammer 35 actuated from clock 36, by the well-known clock mechanism, at any set or predetermined hour, said hour being indicated on the face of said clock. Foundation board 25 may be mounted in any suitable place on the wall in close proximity to said furnace 1 by means of screws 37, the working parts of said controller being inclosed by means of cover 38.
Referring to Fig. 2 of the drawings damper regulator control 23 is shown as placed at a remote locality in a dwelling, the clock 36 being in plain view mounted in a room or an apartment in any suitable manner in said dwelling, the chain 19 passing over pulleys 39 and between the walls or partitions 40 to the furnace 1.
The operation of the device is as follows: Clock 36 is set at any desired predetermined hour, the trip hammer 35 being actuated from the clock mechanism. The damper regulator control mechanism is set or held in its normal position (that is, the position movement of said lever 14 on rod 18.

What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is 1. Adevice ol' the character described including a heat generator, a draft damper, an outlet damper, a bell crank lever associated with said generator, connections between said dampers and lever, a damper regulator,
connections between said lever and regulator, said regulator comprising a -foundation board, a plurality of arms mounted on said board, lugs formed on said arms, a pawl mounted on said board provided with cam ends adapted to engage said lugs, guides formed on said arms adapted to reseat said striking head mounted on one of said arms, a cover for said parts, a clock, and a trip hammer actuated by said clock mechanism adapted to move said striking head and release said pawl and arms.
2. A device of the character described including a furnace and a damper regulator comprising a foundation board, operating and actuating levers mounted therein, reception lugs on said levers, a pawl mounted on said board provided with cam ends adapted to engage said reception lugs, guides on said levers adapted to reseat said. pawl in said lugs, a spring adapted to hold said levers in engagement with said pawl, a striking head on said actuatinglever, a cover for said aforesaid parts, a clock, and a trip hammer actuated from said clock adapted to strike said head and release said pawl and levers.
