Description

fffffffff n:
F. J. GARROD,
TICKET HOLDER.
.APPLICATION FILED JAN. 29, 1909.
Patented'May 1'8,V 1909.
@riff/0M@ FREDERICK I. GARROD, 0F WINNIPEG, MANITOBA., CANADA.
TICKET-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.`
Patented May 1S, 1939.
Application led January 29, 1909. Serial No. 474,95*?.
To all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, FREDERICK JOHN GARROD, a subject ol the King olf Great Britain, residing at `l/Vinnipeg, in the Province ol' Manitoba and Dominion ol' Canada, have invented new and usel'ul Improvements in Ticket-Holders, ol' which the Yfollowing is a specification.
This invention relates to holders primarily intended for use in connection with street car tickets and the main object ol the inven tion is to provide a device of this character having means whereby the tickets may be easily and readily l'ed 'l'rom an opening provided by the receptacle adjacent the leed roll and the ticket being readily severed vfrom the remainder' ol' the tickets rolled within the receptacle, means consisting ol' a closure having an oilset lip adapted to be compressed against the ticket so that the latter may be disconnected Vfrom the remainder in an even line.
Vith the above, and other objects in view which will appear' as the description progresses, the invention resides in the novel construction and arrangement oi parts hereinaiter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1. is l a perspective view ol' a ticket receptacle constructed in accordance with the present invention, and illustrating the door or closure partly open to display the ejection roller. Fig. 2 is a Afront elevation oi the same, the door being shown in its closed position and a ticket projecting 'from the receptacle. Fig. 3 is a vertical transverse sectional view upon the line 3-3 oll Fig. 2.
In the accompanying drawing the numeral l designates the holder proper'. This holder 1 comprises a substantially rectangular box having a back 2, sides 3, a bottom 4 and 'a 'l'ront 5. The Alront 5 extends only a certain distance away 'from the bottom 2., and the space provided by the open top olf the device and between the sides thereo'l' is effectively closed through the medium ol' a door 6. This door 6 is hingedly connected. with the iront 5 as at 7 and is provided with an oiiset or inwardly curved portion 8 adapted to partially close the open top oi' the receptacle. The door 6 is preferably constructed ol resilient metal and has its sides provided with suitable inturned flanges 9 which are adapted to exert pressure against the sides 3 oll the receptacle 1, thereby eliectively retaining the door in its normally closed position. The lip or ex treniity oll the offset portion 8 may be sharp cned il desired, 'for a purpose hereina'lter to be set forth.
Positioned between the sides S adjacent the upper open portion el the receI tacle .l and in closed proximity with the back 2 ol' the receptacle is a roller ejector l0. This ejector l0 is provided with plurality spaced teeth Il, which are adapted to en o with the tickets inserted within the re l* tacle when. they are positioned between the ejector and the back The roller i0 is pron vided with suitable trunnions extending through alining openings provided in the sides 3, and one of these trunnions, or both il'desired, may be provided with an oper ating button or head 1.2.
In operating the device the receptacle is 'lirst 'lilled with car tickets oi the usual con.- tinuous Ytorni in which each or the ti .ts connected with the other by aline of porterations and the lowerinost tickets niaj. ...c bent upwardly against the Yliront wall of the device, as clearly shown in Fig. 3 oit the drawing. The uppermost ticket is brought into engagiLF ment with the spurs or teeth ot thc roller ejector 10 which, being positioned below the top ol the device, retains the ticket below the upper portion of the r ceptaclc, thus obviat'ing the necessity o'l presenting projecting portions of the ticket to the exterior of the holder. The oi'isets Q ot the door 2 exert outward pressure against the sides and have a tendency to prevent the oilset 8 troni contacting with the ticket as it is ejected. by the roller l0. lThen the ticket has been brought high enough. to present its weakened line thc upper portion of the resilient cover o is pressed inwardly so as to cause the lip ot the oflset 8 to contact with the ticket at they exact line at which it is to be severed Vfrom the remainder of the tickets.
From the above description, taken in. connection with the accompanying drawing, .it will be noted that I have provided an cxtreme y simple, durable and cheaply oonstructed device 'for the purpose intended, one wherein the tickets may be readily lied to the ejector and normally lie against the 'troni'. and rear orc the receptacle, and one which is provided with a resilient door having an upper otlset provided with a lip which is adapted to be pressed against the ticket to sever tho saine without danger' of mutilation and which. is also provided with resilient side offsets adapted to contact the sides ot the lUL) ll (l receptacle and retain the door at any desired position upon the receptacle. Y
Having thus fully described the invention what is claimed as new is:
In a holder of the class described, a substantially rectangular receptacle having an open top and a partially open front, a roller ejector member provided with teeth trunnioned between the sides of the receptacle directly below the open top and in close proximity with the rear of the receptacle, an operating handle for the roller, a resilient door pivoted to the upper wall of the partially open front, and said door being provided with an offset top adapted to normally Y lie above the ejector and away from the rear portion of the receptacle, said door having its sides provided with offset portions, and the said offset portions adapted to frictionally and resiliently contact the sides of the receptacle.
In testimony whereof I aiiiX my signature in presence of two witnesses.
