REVOLVING- DOOR.
Specification of Letters Patent.

Doors, of which the following is a specifica-` tion.
My invention has reference to revolving doors, that is to say, to doors turning in one direction only; and relates to means for actuating the same with the aid of a motor.
The essential feature of the invention is the provision of a spring, which is normally under tension, but on slight pressure being applied to one of the door-wings, unwinds and thereby aids in the rotation of the door; and at a given time effects closing of the circuit of an electric motor, which again winds up the spring, independently of the axis of the door, and is then automatically cut out.
One form of construction of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a side elevation and part section, and Fig. 2 a plan.
On the shaft a, which represents the axis on which the door (itself not shown) turnsbut in the direction of the arrow only-, there is loosely mounted the barrel b, and below the latter there is likewise loosely mounted the worm wheel c. The barrel b contains the coiled spring f, one end of which is secured to t-he wall of the barrel and the other to the boss c1 of the worm wheel e. The tension of the spring is such that it can only move the door wings, connected with the shaft a, when slight pressure is exerted against one of the wings. The worm wheel is connected with an electric motor l by means of a worm g and two spur wheels z t. Above the barrel 7) there is keyed on the shaft a a ratchet wheel K, with which there engages spring-actuated pawl Z, pivoted to the barrel. Supposing the door is set in motion: the worm wheel c and worm ,7 still remaining stationary, the spring f will exert a rotary action onthe shaft a and thus cause or rather, aid, rotation of the door. `When the spring f has nnwound to a certain extent, it will be wound up again by the motor. This is done in the following manner. m is a threaded spindle which screws up and down in the nut n of the fixed arm p and is connected with a lever 0. This spindle is furnished with a spider wheel g, whose spokes engage with the lugs or wings g1 of the wheel c. A second spider wheel r is mounted to turn in a fixed arm t. This wheel r has no internal thread, but allows the spindle m to pass freely through it. It is furnished with a pin a, which engages with a stopcollar n, rigidly secured 'to the spindle ym, so that on rotation of the wheel 1,
owing to the cooperation of the pin u with the stop of the collar o, rotation of the spindle m is effected. The spokes s of the wheel fr engage with the corresponding lugs or wings s1 of the barrel 7). As seen in Fig. 1, the lever is of double cranked shape carry ing the contacts fu y1. The inner end of this lever is turned down by means of the rotation of the spindle m for starting the motor, bringing the contact m1 up into contact with the fixed contact ai, and when the said spindle is screwed in the opposite direction by the motor, the contact y/l comes in contact with the fixed contact y/ and stops the motor.
In this form I have shown two axles and a plurality of wings or doors connected for simultaneous movement.

Then the door is turned, the motor, worm and worm wheel at first remain at rest, while the barrel rotates, so that the spring is unwound, exerting an action on the door. The wings ,s1 will now engage with the spokes of the wheel r, and the pin u with the stop of the collar o, whereby the spindle m is set in rotation. The spindle thus screws itself down in the nut n, and thus cuts in the motor by bringing plate a on lever 0 against the fixed contact fr. hen the door ceases to be turned, it will, with the barrel, remain stationary, while the motor continues to work at first, and turning the worm wheel by means of the worm g, again winds up the spring f. At the same time the wings g1 of the worm wheel c will rotate the nut n., whereby the spindle m works up again and separates the plates and and thus cuts out the motor.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is l. In revolving doors, in combination, a door axis; a ratchet wheel rigidly mounted thereon; a barrel having a pawl which engages with the ratchet wheel, and a second Wheel, both loosely mounted on the-axis; a
