lTOHN WILLIAM COOK, 0F DIDSBURY, NEAR MANCHESTER,
LAPPET OR THREAD-BOARD FOR SPINN To all whom tt may concern.'
Be it known that I, JOHN WILLIAM COOK,`
of Didsbury, near Manchester, of Lancaster, England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in or Connectedwith Lappets or Thread-Boards for S inning, Doubling, and Twisting Frames, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to the supports for the thread guides of spinning frames, which supports are calledv thread boards or .lappets,H the latter being the term hereinafter employed for brevity.
The usual methods of constructing la pets and applying holding devices for the thread guides to enable the necessary adjustments to be made are open to objection as regards the fluff and dirt retaining faces which they resent. Further than this, objection has een taken to certain forms of metal lappets as made hitherto owing to their particular form of construction being inadequate to withstand ordinary wear and tear in consequence of which the lappets have either been bent or in some eXtreme cases broken.
The object of my resent invention is to construct a metallic lbox-like lappet from a single piece of metal forming the upper, lower and two side walls and front end, the upper and lower walls being formed to support the shank of a thread guidein such a manner that justed and held in anydesired position. 1
To these ends, my invention consists in the construction and combination of parts Substantially as hereinafter described and claimed.
Of the accompanying drawings z-'Figure l represents a front elevation of a lappet emin the county bodyinlg my invention, the thread guide being s own in section. Fig. 2 is a side elevation. Fig. 3 is a plan` view. Fig. 4 is a viewfrom below, and Fig. 5 is a detail sectional view of the eye-bolt and parts adjacent thereto.
The lap et A is formedfrom a single ieeel ent` of metal t e body portion of which isv over upon itself to form the to frontend, and bottom, and the sides of wlifich are bent up to complete the box-like structure. The ends of the sides are projected somewhat and specification or` Let-ters Patent. Application filed May 3, 1907.

have openings formed therein for the reception of the ends of the pintle of the hinge B. Said hinge B is in turn attached to the usual lleting of the s inning, doubling or twistingmachine, andO closes the inner end of the boX-lilre structure.
he outer curved end of the lappet A is formed with a hole of sufficient size to allow the shank of the thread guide E to move freely in and out. To retain the thread guide in osition its shank passes through an eye bolt which passes through a slot in the lower face of the lappet A and is provided with a suitablyshaped nut F. The nut F as provided with notches or indentations into which a specially shaped Vkey can be iitted to turn it, but I do not conline myself solely to this form of nut. slot through which the eye bolt passes is of sufficient size toallow lateral adjustment of the said eye bolt. lWhen the nut F is screwed up it draws the bolt G downward and causes the shank 4ofthe guide E to be clamped tightly against the fiat smooth upper fa'ce of the lower half of the lappet over an extended area `f said face from the hole in the forward end to the eye bolt, as shown in Fig. 5.VY When it is necessary to adjust'the thread guidelongitudinally, the nutF is unscrewed and the shank of the thread moved inward or outward. Should lateral adjustment be necessary the end of the thread `guide is moved into the position desired, the
shank causing the eye b t to move in an opposite direction in the slot cut in the lower face of the lappet `the fulcrum of the thread guide and shank being the edge of the hole in the outer end of the lap et.
Having now particular y described and ascertained the nature of my said invention and in what manner the same is to be performed, I declare that what I claim is 1. A lappet for; spinning, doubling and `twisting machines formed from a single piece of metal the body portion ofwhich is bent over upon itself toform the top, bottom and one end thereof, and the sides of which are bent up to complete a box-like inclosure.
2. A lappet for spinning, doubling and twisting machines formed from a single iece portion of which is ent over upon itself to form the top, bottom and provided with means whereby it niziy be :id-
one end thereof, and the sides of which are jnsted either laterally or longitudinally. 10 bent up to complete a box-like inelosure, the in testimony whereof have :iliixed niy ends of said sides being projected and eech signature, in presence of' two witnesses.
