Description

F. B. DUNN.
WIRE GUT BRICK. v ATION FILED MAR 13 APPLI 1908. 918,980, Patented Apr. 20, 1909.
FRANK B. DUNN, or ooN EAU'r, onro.
WIRE-CUT ianrox.
Application filed. Marcus, 1902;. Serial No. asasi'a To all whom it may concern: Be it known that I, FRANK B.'DUNN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Con-- neaut, in'the county of Ashtabula and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wire-Cut Brick and I do hereby declare the followin to .be' a full, clear, and exact description. 0 the invention, such as will enable others skilled in-theart'to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, forming part of this specification.
My invention relates to improvements in. wire-cut brick.
Heretofore wire-cut brick have been uniformly cut with their side faces plain, and in order-to produce faised .surfaces on said side faces it has been necessary to put the brick through a process of re ressing, whichadds greatly! to the cost 0 production. .Brickiav ng ralsed surfaces on their side faces are considered much superior to fiatsidedbrick,
particularly when used for paving, and in that case such raised surfaces retain the sides of the bricks a short distance apart thereby facilitating the filling of the joints between the sides of the brick with suitable material such as cement or asphalt, thereby tying them together so as. to form a homogeneous structure, which annot' readily be accomplished by the use of flat-sided brick. To the better accomplish this result I have devised a wirecut brick'which is provided with ribs on one side thereof, and corres 0ndin grooves in theopposite side of the rick, alIof which I produce durin the. o eration of wire-cutting of the bric so t at Y the brick comes from the wire-cutter in a finished condition ready for the dry-house and'kiln, as is clearly set forth and described in my pending application forpatent filed October 2, 1907, Serial N 0. 395,584, for an invention in'wire-cut brick-cutting mechanism.
The features of my invention are hereinafter fully set forth and described, and illus- Specification of Letters Patent. I
tPatented Apri120, 1909.
trated in the accompanying drawings, in which: I Figure 1 is-a view in perspective of my improved wire-cut brick, showing ribs on the side thereof. Fig. 2 is a side view in elevation of a section of my improved brick, showing grooves in the opposite side'thereof. Fig. 3 is a plan view ofa section of pavement made of my improved wire-cut brick.
In these drawings A is one side of the brick, and a a are ribsprojecting outwardly from, and extending across the slde A thereof, and A is the opposite side of the brick, and af 0. are corresponding grooves therein; the brick being formed with the wire-"cut ribs a a on one side A, and the wire-cut grooves a a in the op osite side A thereof, finished com-, lete, tiring the operation of cutting the corresponding grooves in the sides of the brick may however, if derick. The ribs an sired, be wire-cut longitudinall across, or die. onally on the side of the brie ,with equal faci 'ty, therefore I do not desire to confine myself to the exact arrangement of the ribs shown, and herein described.
' In '3, I show these wire-cut brick as.
they appear laid in a avement with the joints etween the si e-faces filled with cement B so as to lock the bricks together into a homogeneous pavement.
Having thus-shown and described my in-- vention' so as to enable others, to utilize the same, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters-Patent is:
1. As an, article of manufacture, a wire-cut brick havin [wire-cut ribs on the side thereof, substanti y as set forth.
2. As an article of manufacture, a wire-cut brick having wire-cut ribs on one slde, and wire-cut grooves in the opposite slde, substantially as set forth. v
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
FRANK B. DUNN.
