ELECTRIC HEATING DEVICE.
Application filed July 23, 190a. Serial No. 445,000.-
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PERRY C. CHASE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Upland, in the county of San Bernardino and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Electrio Heating Devices, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to improvements in electric heaters and more particularly one which may be immersed in a vessel containing water or other liquid for the urpose of heating. the same and which'may e readily connected to any electric light socket.
The object of the invention is to provide a portable electric water heater of this charac ter which will be simple and inexpensive in.

In the drawings 1 denotes my improved portable electric water or liquid heater which is connected by a conducting cord 0 to a plug P which may be screwed into an ordinary electric light socket. The heater comprises a body through which the water or iquid may freely circulate and which contains suitably connected and arranged resistanee coils. The body 1 is preferably of rectangular shape and constructed of an 0 on metal frame 2 of angle metal strips.

Arranged within the body are a plurality of coil supporting plates 5 between which are arranged spacing plates 6, the latter being provided to prevent the wires of the coils of adjacent plates 5 from coming in contact with each other and short circuiting portions of said coils, thereby insuring the passage of the current through every portion of each coil.

These plates 5, 6 are preferably constructed of mica and the su porting or carrying plates 5'are of slightly ess size than the spacin plates 6 and each has centrally disposed apertures 7 arranged adjacent to its ends, and notches or seats 8 formed in its opposite side edges. A wire 9 is wrapped or coiled around each of the plates 5, its coils being engaged with the seatsS and thereby properly spaced apart, and its ends being passed through the apertures 7, as illustrated. In each of the spacing plates 6 adjacent to one of its ends is an aperture 10 through which the end of one of the 'wires 9 may be passed so that such wire can be connected to the corresponding wire on the next adjacent plate 5, as shown at 11. y The up er ends of the wires 9 upon the outermost p ates 5 are passed through a ertures 12 in the upper end plate of the ody 1 and suitably connected to the conductors of the cord C, the
joint on connection being wrapped or covered by insulating material, as indicated at 13. The lower ends of the wires upon the endmost plates 5 and the wires u on the intermediate plates 5 are connecte so that all of' said wires will be in the electric circuit.
In using the invention the body 1 is immersed in the water or other liquid to be heated and the current is then turned on by means of the key in the socket in which the plug P is inserted. 1. An electric water heater adapted to be submerged in a liquid and comprising a perforated body, a plurality of coil carrying plates of non-conducting material arranged in the body in arallel relation and each having its side edges formed with notches, each of said plates also having perforations arranged ad acent its ends, wires having their ends passed through the apertures in said carrying plates and their intermediate portions wound or coiled around said plates and engaged with said notches, and spacing plates composed of non-conducting material arran ed within the body between the carrying p ates and a ertured to receive certain being united and the wires of the outer or .endmost coils projecting outside of the body.
