T all whom it may concern.' i Be it known that 1, HARRY S. JoHNsroN, citizen of the United States, residing at Apollo, in the county of Armstrong and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Eyeglasses, of which the following is a specification.

rl`his invention relates to eye glasses and more particularly to nose pieces and means for attaching them to the eye glasses.

Heretofore considerable difficulty has been experienced in so attaching the nose pieces as to prevent them from working loose after being in use for arshort time.

The object of the present invention is to provide a nose piece having simple means for engagement with the stud of the eye glass frame, said means including a 'locking plate for engaging the fastening screw which enters the stud.

Another object is to provide a locking plate which entirely conceals said screw from view and presents smooth surfaces so as to prevent the accumulation of dirt thereon.

A still further object is to provide a nose piece and lock which can be readily applied to eye glasses of ordinary forms and which are not bulky or unattractive in appearance.

1With these and other objects in view the invention consists of certain novel features of construction and combinations of parts which will be hereinafter' more fully described and pointed out in the claims.

ln the accompanying drawings is shown the preferred form of the invention.

Referring to the figures by characters of reference, 1 designates the stud of an eye glass frame such as ordinarily provided upon each rim of the frame, said stud having side flanges 2 as ordinarily and being provided with a screw threaded opening 3 for the reception of a fastening screw 4 the head of which is rounded and provided with radial teeth or serrations 5 while a kerf 6 is formed Within the head as ordinarily.

The device constituting the present invention consists cf a metal plate 7 constituting the body of the device, said plate having a central opening 8 interposed between parallel longitudinally extending slots 9. This plate is so shaped as to lit upon the stud 1 with flanges 2 extending through the slots 9 and with the opening 8 registering with the opening 3 in the stud. A stem 10 extends from one end of the body 7 and the nose piece per se is arranged at the outer end thereof as indicated at 11. Extending from the other end of the body 7 is a stem 12 having a locking plate 13 at the outer end thereof which plate is provided with a recess 14 the inner face of which is rcughened or serrated along radial lines as shown at 15. rlhis recess is shaped so as to lit snugly upon the head of the screw Ll in the manner hereinafter described. Op ositely extending ears 16 are formed at the free end of the plate 13 and constitute means for holding` said plate in contact with the body 7 as will be hereinafter set forth.

lVhen it is desired to attach the herein described nose piece to an eye glass frame the body 7 is placed upon the stud so that the flanges 2 will project into the slots 9. The screw 4. is then inserted into the openings 8 and 3 and tightened so as to bind the body 7 against the stud and against the end of the spring 17 which is seated on the stud as ordinarily. The stein 12 is then folded so as to bring the plate 13 against the exposed face of body 7 and with the head of the screw projecting into the recess 14. The corrugations or serrations upon the screwhead and within the recess lil will interlock or engage so as to prevent the screw from i rotating and the ears 16 are then folded so as to engage the stem as indicated particularly in Fig. 1. lt will be seen that when the parts are secured together in this manner it becomes impossible for the screw sto become unfastened.

As shown particularly in lfig. 2 the locking plate 13 does not fold abruptly on to the plate 7, but, instead, is provided at its point of juncture with the plate 7 with an eye or rolled portion as indicated at 1S.

lf desired, and as shown in Tdigs. 2 and 3, the recess 14 within the locking plate may be rovided with a soft metal lining or filling, designed, when the plate is pressed on to the l head of the screw, to adjust itself to the conlll) tour of the screw and thus lock it against rotation. This lining has been indicated at 19.

What is claimed is: 1. The combination with a stud having outstanding ianges, of a body having slots removed from the edges thereof for the reception of the flanges, said body constitute ing means for preventing the tlanges from spreading apart, fastening means extending through the body and into the stud, said means having a corrugated portion, means integral with the body for contacting with one face of the body and clamping upon the fastening means, and a plastic material carried by said means for conforming with and engaging the corrugated portion of the iastening means.

2. The combination with a stud having outstanding flanges, of a slotted body for engaging the langes to prevent them from spreading apart, fastening means extending through the body and into the stud, said means having a roughened head, means integral with the body for bearing against one face thereof', said means having a recess for the reception of the head of the fastening means, and a plastic material Within the re'-' cess for conforming with and engaging the roughened portion of the head, and a clip integral with the said clamping means for engaging the body.

3. As an article of manufacture a nose piece attachment for eye-glasses comprising a stud-engaging body having an opening for the reception of fastening means, a nosepiece integral with the body, there being a stem connecting the body and nose-piece, a locking plate, a stem connecting the plate and the body, said plate having a recess for the reception of fastening means, a plastic lining within the recess, and bendable ears extending laterally from the locking plate vfor engaging the stem between the body and iioseqiieee, the other stem being oldable to position the locking plate upon the body.
