`WILLIAlvI E. WATSON AND JOSEPH H. WATSON, OF HINSDALE, EW HAMPSHR.
suc'rIoN-NozzLE.
shire?, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Suction-Nozzles, of which the followin vlis a speciiication, reference bein had to t e accompanying drawings.
his invention relates to improvements in suction heads or nozzles for use in connection with vacuum or suction cleaning` apparatus for removing dirt from carpets, furniture and the like'.
The-object of the invention is to provide a nozzle of this characterwhich will effectively a' itate the nap of the, carpet or covering of tage furniture so as to loosen and remove the dirt, and Which may be readily adjusted to operate upon diierent kinds of carpets and coverings.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists of the novel features of construction and the lcombination and arran ement of parts hereinafter fully descri ed and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a plan view of the improved suction head or nozzle; Fig. 2 .is an endvview of the same; Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section' and- Fig. 4 is a detail longitudinal section through the outer end of the nozzle taken in 'a plane at right angles to the plane of` Fig. 3.

When the carpet or covering has along nap the blade 37 is adjusted outwardl a distance sufficient to cause it to eiiective y scrape or agitate the nap and thereby loosen the dust so that the latter will .be diawniinto the nozzle or head by suction. The blade 37 is adjusted b means of twol screws 38 arranged in threa ed openings formed inlateral oset portions of the en ds 35 and having their inner ends swiveled in yokes 39 pivoted to the ends of the blade. The outer ends of said screws are provided with notched heads or finger pieces by means of which they may be readily turned yto adjust the blade.
Having thus described the invention what is claimed is:
A suction nozzle comprising a body having an open endv or mouth provided with guides, `a blade slidable in said guides, and a pair of screws arranged in the opposite sides of the nozzle and having their inner ends swiveled to said blade and their outer ends provided with operating heads. o
