UNITED STATS PATENT OFFICE.
SANDERS LIEBMAN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR TO THE NEW YORK CASH SALES BOOK COMPANY, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., A CORPORATION OF NEW YORK.
CHE (IK-HOLDER.
.To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SANDERS LIEBMAN, a citizen of the United States, and resident of the city, county, and State of New York, have made certain new and useful Inventions Relating to Clieclr-Iiiolders, of which the following is a specification, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to check holders and relates especially to sales check holders comprising a casing provided with screw or other securing means for securing therein the desired number of separate, perforated sales checks, these checks resting upon a removable support to which is attached a suitable guide in the form of a piercing spindle or otherwise to .allow the ready removal of the support, spindle and checks at any time, trom the casing which may be provided with locllng means coperating with a locking lug or other device on the support.
In the accompanyingl drawing showing in a somewhat diagrammatic manner illustrative embodiments of this invention and in which the same reference numeral refers to similar parts in the several figures, Figure 1 is a side vertical sectional view of one form of check holder. Fig. 2 is a side view of the checks and support removed from the holder, and Fig. 3 is a top view, parts being broken away showing a modiiied construction. v
The casing may be formed in any desired way to su port the securing means and may, if desired? be in the form of an integral stamped metal casing 1 having an open side as indicated. The securing or clamping means may be in the form of a suitable nut 12 provided with the threads 13 and also if desired, with the upwardly projecting sleeve extending through the top of the casing having the keyhole 10, this nut being secured in lthe casing in any desired way as by the rivets 17 shown in Fig. 3. The clamping screw 7 having threads of' any desired pitch cooperating with the threads of the nut, may be formedwith the collar 27 to limit its downward travel and with the shaped end or arbor 9 with which the corresponding key end 11 cooperates when the key is inserted into the hole in the sleeve. The lower end of the clamping screw is revolubly mounted Specification of Letters Patent.

in a suitable clamping plate 6 loosely fitting within and guided by the walls of the casing so as to be forced down against the pile of checks to hold them in position. The screw may have its end riveted within the washer 8 revolubly mounted in the clamping plate so as to allow the proper relative rotation between these parts.
The support may be in the form of a plate 3 fitting loosely within the casing and projecting to the desired extent in coperation with the checks 2 and is preferably provided with suitable guiding'members coperating with the stub ends of the checks so that they can be readily withdrawn from or inserted into the casing with the support. Such guiding members may be in the form of a piercing spindle guide L1 secured to or integral with the support and adapted to cooperate with suitable holes punched in the stub ends of the checks g or if desired, a suitable noncircular guiding member may be employed, such for instance, as the rectangular piercing spindle guide 24 shown in Fig. 3 as coperating with similarly shaped holes in the check stubs and thus maintaining them in angular alinement as well as preventing their bodily movement with respect to the guide.
Any desired locking means may be rovided to hold the support in proper ainenient with the casing, tor example, the locking lug 25 may be formed on the support in line with the spindle guide so that its reduced end may readily enter the locking recess 25 in the casing so as to bring the support into alinement therewith and rnily hold the parts in proper position when the clamping means are operated. The upper end of the spindle guide may be accommodated in a suitable guide aperture 18 which may be in the form olE a hole as shown in Fig. 1 or in the form of a slotted aperture 19 as shown in 3, in which case it is not necessary to withdraw the clamping plate so far before withdrawing or inserting the support and unitary spindle guide on which the checks and stubs are arranged. 1t is of course understood, that any desired form of attaching means may be used in connection with the casing to mount the same properly in operating posi'- tion; and if desired, a suitable attaching clip 14 may be used for this purpose and mounted on the side of the casing by the pivot 21 passing through the lugs 22 on the casing and similar lugs on the clip which may be provided with the usual teeth 16 so as to firmly hold the device when engaging the operators belt, for example, under tne iniiuence of the spring 15. These sales checks are, of course, usually provided with a designating' and a serial number as well as with other designa-V tions to indicate the amount of a purchase in connection with a punch or other device, the checks being torn oii" at the line of perforations 20 so as to leave the stubs, having similar designating and serial numbers, in place in the holder from which they may be removed by the proper persons and kept for record purposes. During such removal the support and connected spindle guide enables the entire number of separate checks to be readily removed from the holder at a single operation so that the stubs can be iiled and new stubs added to make up the proper number, while the alinement of the checks with respect to the support is maintained by the spindle guide. The support guide and checks may then be readily inserted in the holder and securely clamped therein by the proper person having the control key to the holder.
Having described this invention in connection with. a number of illustrative embcdiments thereof, to the details of which disclosure the invention is not of course to be limited, what is claimed as new and what is desired to be secured by Letters Patent is set forth in the appended claims. o
