ELECTRICAL CONTACT-BRUSH.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented March 30, 1909.
Application filed December 10, 1908. Serial No. 466,888.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY K. SANDELL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago. in the county of Cool: and State of linois, have invented a new and useful provement in Electrical Contact-Brushes, or which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in electrical contact-brushes of the kind in which the contacting element is a bunch of wires in a suitable holder.
In contact-devices of the kind referred to the brush wears off with use, and it is common to support it in its holder in a manner to render it adjustable for protruding it beyond the same to compensate for such wear, but the means of adjustment are not operative with desirable facility in connections here it is required to effect the adjustment qui ly, as is the case in an electricallyplayed musical instrument employing the device for its circuit-closing purpose upon a traveling music-sheet, since it is important that the adjustment may be accomplished without interrupting or marring the playing of the instrument.
I he object of my invention is to provide a novel construction of the contact-device whereby it may be protruded with facility and quickly without requiring the use of any tool for the purpose, and without interfering with the playing of the instrument in which the device is used for its circuit-closa bunch of wires (preferably copper) of considerably greater length than the tube to protrude at the forward end of the latter for the contacting purpose and beyond its rear atits rear end, with a bracket L end into accessible position for convenient manipulation. diameter to cause it to fit snugly in the tube and the bend in it produced by the curvature 2 causes it to resist any tendency to longitudii'ial displacement under the pressure to which its contact-end is subjected in use, it may be readily moved lengthwise by manipulating its protruding rear end to advance it in the tube for feeding it toward its forward end to protrude the latter in compensating for wear thereon. Thus whenever it becomes necessary to so compensate for the wear, the operation may be readily and quickly performed by gripping the wirebunch at its rear protruding end and pressing it forward to advance its forward contact-end to the required extent. The rear fianged end of the tube facilitates directing an end of the wire-bunch into it in supplying it therewith.
hat I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. An electrical contact-brush comprising. in combination, a tube having a curved section and forming a holder for a bunch of wires, and a bunch of metal wires extending through and beyond the ends of the tubes. for the purpose set forth.
2. An electrical contact-brush comprising. in combination. a tube having a curved section and flanged about its rear end, said tube forming a holder for a bunch of wires, and a bunch of metal wires extending through and beyond the ends of the tube and snugly fitting the internal diameter thereof. for the purpose set forth.
3. An electrical contact-brush comprising. in combination, a tube having a curved sec tion and forming a holder for a bunch of wires, a bunch of metal wires extending through and beyond the ends of the tube, and a supporting bracket on the tube, for the purpose set forth.
HENRY K. SANDELL.
