' UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WALTER G. BIHLER AND MARY BIHLER, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
STOVE-TRAY.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, IVALTER C. BIHLER and MARY BIHLER, citizens of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Steve- Trays, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to trays for cook or gas stoves, and the object of the invention is to provide a device of this character having a base provided with holes corresponding to the lid openings of a cook or gas stove, the holes of the tray being adapted for the reception of cooking utensils and the device being primarily intended for shielding the top of the stove from grease or other matters flowing or boiling over the top of the stove during the process of cooking.
lVith these and other objects in view, which will appear as the description progresses, the invention resides in the novel construction of stove trays hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of a stove tray constructed in accordance with the present invention and showing the same in applied position upon a cook stove. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional View of the tray taken in a line with two of the openings thereof.
Referring to the accompanying drawing the numeral 1 designates an ordinary cook or gas stove; 2, its top; 3 its lid, and 4 the stove pipe. It is to be understood, however, that this is simply a representative illustration and while the tray is designed especially for use with the type of stove shown the trays may be proportioned and constructed for use with stoves of any other type. t
The numeral 5 designates the improved tray. This tray 5 is preferably stamped out of a single piece of sheet metal and comprises a flat bottom portion 6 and inclined sides or walls 7. The walls 7 may also be provided with horizontal ofl'set edges 8, and secured to two of these ofiset portions 8 in Specification of Letters Patent.

diametrically opposite positions from each other are a pair of handles 9. These handles 9 are raised from the top of the tray so that they will not become thoroughly heated and the tray may be easily handled while warm and removed from the top of the stove. The bottom portion 6 of the tray is provided with a plurality of openings 10 adapted to aline with the openings of the stove top. These openings 10 may comprise cylindrical cut away portions or they may be provided with a plurality of radiating ribs or arms 12. The openings 10 and the spiders 12 are both adapted for the reception of cooking utensils, such as pans, pots or the like, and it will be readily noted that when these utensils are in position upon the tray the side walls 7 effectively prevent spattering of grease upon the stove or its surroundings.
From the above description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings it will be noted that we have provided an extremely simple and effective device for the purpose set forth, one which may be easily and quickly positioned upon or removed from the stove, and which, when not in use may be easily cleaned and stored away.
Having thus fully described the invention what is claimed as new is:
A stove tray for the purpose set forth, comprising a substantially rectangular member stamped from a single sheet of metal to provide a base having inclined sides and outt-urncd edges, handles upon the edges, the base having a plurality of openings adapted to coincide with the openings in the top of the stove, and some of the said openings being provided with arms radiating from their center and integrally connected with the base of the tray.
In testimony whereof we atfix our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
