Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented March 3o, 190e.
Application filed June 13, 1908.A Serial No. 438,397.
To all whom fit 'may concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERT citizen of the United States, residing at New Hartford, in the county o 'f Oneida and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Adjustable Hinged Ceiling-Plates, of which the .folloffing is a specification.
This invention relates to a ceilin plate, reference being had to that class o? plates through which a steam pipe passes, and the invention relates especially'to plates used in.
connection with vertically extending pipes. The object of the' invention is to provide a ready means for holding the ceiling plate in position, and for tightening the same -should it become loose.
- tThe invention consists of the novel features of construction' hereinafter described, pointed out in the claims, and rshown in the accompanying drawings, in which,
Figure 1 is a sectional view illustrating .the application of 1ny` invention to a ceiling plate, a steam pipe being shown in section.
Fig. 2 is a section on r,the line Q-FQ. of Fig. 1.,' .Fig. 3 is a sectionl onmthe line 3 -3 of 'Fig 1. Fig. 4 is a detail perspective -view of my ceiling plate locking means.
f' In these drawings 1 represents a ceiling throughV which passes a''steam pipe 2. A
land paral 1 upon which the flanged portions 9 of the terminate in"stirrups at their upper ends which stirrups rest in the opening formed inthe ceiling for the passage of t-he pipe. To these ystirrups are hinged angled plates 9 provided at their free ends with end fianges 9a, and to each stirrup is secured av spring 10 the ends of which bear respectively upon the stirrup and the plate 9 connected thereto.
It will be obvious from an inspection of Fig. 1 lthat when the stirrups are brought into the position shown the spring 10 will forcethe late 9 at right angles to the rod lei to the upper side of the ceiling plates rest.
By tightening the nuts 7 the ceiling plate 3 can be pressed tightly against the ceiling 1, and it will be held firmly in position between the ceiling and the nuts, the plates ,9
and .springs 10 preventing the rods (3 froni dropping downwardly.
. Having thus fully ldescribed my ini'ention, what I claim as new and desireI to secre by Letters Patent is:
1. The combination-with a ceiling plate, threaded rods passing vertically therethrough, nuts working u on the threaded portions of said rods an' `bear1ng against"y the plate, and spring pressed plates hinged to theupper ends of the rods.
2. A device of the kind described coin` prising a sectional cylindrical, ceiling plate,
a rod passing vertically through each sec-4 tion of the ceiling plate, the lower endportions orn said rods being threaded, plates:
hinged to the upper end' portions of said rods, springs carried by said rods and bearing upon said plates and nuts workingin the threaded portions ol the frods.`
