CUR'TAIN-S HADE-ROLLER SUPPORT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented March 23, 1909.
Application filed August 4, 1908. Serial No. 446,975. I
T all whom it may concern:
e it known that we, Janus .\i. BRYANT an HARRY H. BRYANT, citizens of the United States of Amcri'ca/ residing at (1) Benwood, (2) Bellairc, in the county of (1) Marshall, (2) Belmont, and State of (1) West Virginia, (2) Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Curtain-Shade- Roller Supports, of which the following is a s ecification, reference being had therein to tl ie accompanying draining.
This invention relates to a curtain shade roller support, and the primary object of our invention is to provide novel means for ad- 'ustably supporting curtain shade roller rackets, whereby curtain shades of various widths can be used in connection with a window.
A further object of our invention is to provide a simple and inex ensive curtain shade rollersupport havin a( j ustable brackets provided wlth novel loc s for holding said brackets'in a fixed position.
Our invention aims to provide a permanent fixture for a windowframc, and detachable brackets which can be easily )laced in engagement with the fixture and ad usted to support a curtain shade roller at any desired length within the limits of the fixture.
The invention further aims to obviate the necessity of'obtaining curtain shades that exactly fit a window-fran'ie, it being possible to easlly and quickly adjust the brackets to supporta roller of the curtain shade in proper re ation to a window-frame.
The detail construction entering into our invention will be resently described, and then specifically pointed out in the appended claims.
Referring to the drawihgsz-Figure 1 is a front elevation of one of the curtain shade roller supports, Fig. 2 is a plan of the same,
Fig. 3 1s a cross sectional view taken on the line a:a:, Fig. 4 is a perspective view of one of the brackets, Fig, 5 is a cross sectional view illustrating a modified form of lock, and Fig. 6 is a plan of a portion of a piece of material from which our fixture is made.
To put our invention into practice, we use two fixtures in connection with each windowframe, said fixtures being located upon the stiles of the frame at the ends of the curtain Each fixture comprises a casing 2 havin a longitudinal slot 3 extending from one ent thereof to the opposite end. The
material bordering upon the edges of the slot 3 is serrated or toothed, as at 4, for an object that will presently ap ear. The casing provides two 0 positely isposed parallel guideways 5, an these guide-ways at one end of the casing are closed, while at the opposite end of the casing, said guide-ways are left open, this being accomplished by beveling the end of the casing. The rear wall of the casin at the ends thereof is enlarged, as at 7, ant apertured as at 8, whereby said casing can be secured to a windon frame by suitable i'astenirn means.
Slidalily mounted in the guide-ways 5 of the casing is a bracket 10 having an angular end 1 1 fitting in the guide-ways 5. The bracket is provided with oppositely disposed slots 12 providing clearance for the serrated or toothed edges of the casing. This bracket is adapted to sup )ort one end of a curtain shade roller. e an ular end 11 of the brackets 10 is provide with a rivet 13 and bent around said rivet is a piece of Wire 14, having the ends thereof extending around the angular end 11 of the bracket, then forwardly, as at 15, and then bent to provide loops 16 serving functionally as handles or grips. piece of wire 14 are adapted to enga e the teeth and serrations 4 of the casing and hold said bracket in a position to which it may be ad'ustcd.
vn Fig. 5 of the drawings, we have illus-' trated a modification of our invention in connection with one of the brackets. This bracket is provided with a pivot pin 17f0r an eccentric 18 having a handle 19, said eccentric being adapted to engage the toothed or serrated edges of the casing, when the handle 19 is swung into engagement with said casing.
Again considcrin the preferred form of construction, it wil be observed that by pressing inwardly upon the forwardly bent ends of ,the wire 14, a bracket can be movedwithin the casing, and that said bracket can be entirely removed through the open end thereof. v
'0. make our curtain shade roller support of light and durable metal in order that the The forwardly bent ends 15 of the ferred embodiments of' our. invention, we.
would have it understood that the elements I in longitudinal slot extending from one end thereof to the op osite end, with the edges of thematerial bor erin uponsaid slot toothed, said casing having 'eveled ends, with one end thereof closed and one end open, a bracket slidably mounted in said casing, said bracket having oppositely disposed slots providing clearance for the toothed edges of said casing, an angularly disposed end for retaining said bracket in engagement with said casing, and'a wire fixed to the angular end of said bracket and having its ends bent forwardly for engaging the toothed edges of said casing and holding said bracket in a fixed osition, substantially as described.
2. curtain shade roller support compriswith a longitudinal slot with the confronting edges of said slot toothed, said casing furthermore provided vith a closed and an open end, a bracket slid ably mounted insaid casing and having oppositely disposed slots I providing a clearance for the toothed edges of said. casing, said bracket furthermore provided with an angularly disposed end for maintaining the bracket in engagement with the casing, and means carried by the angular :1
bracket and engaging the toothed edges of the casing for holding the bracket in a fixed position.
In testimony whereof we afii'x our signatures in the presence of two witnesses.
