Be it known that I, WILLIAM HENRY WA-KFER, a subject of the King of Great Britain,.'residing at No. 67 Whitworth road, Norwood, in the county of Surre En land, have invented an Improved Coc or alve7 of which the followin is a specification.
Thisinvention re ates to an im roved cock or valve of the type consisting o a Acasing having a taper bore or seating within which bore is mounted a taper plug not' quite reaching to the bottom of the casing..
In order to enable the invention to be readily understood reference is made to the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a-side elevation of a cock made according to. this invention. Fig. 2 is an end elevation and Fig. 3 is a longitudinal 'section thereof. Fig. 2i is a plan view showing gripping faces on -the casmg. Fig. 5 is a section of a fragment of the casing showlng a grippingface in the seating. Fig. -6 is a similar view of a hot water tap or cock also constructed :according to this invention. According to another modification asshown in Fig. 11 the plug 10 is made hollow and the inlet is at the bottom while the outlet port is at the side and in this case, where the pressure o'f the liquid always tends to raise the plug the packing and the resilient Washer or washers may be at the to of the plug as firstly described. Or as s own ig. 12 the inlet may be at the side and thetion and waste as well as loss of power thro h leakage. Besides these .advantages the e ect of theindia rubber disk or washer exerting a pressure on the plug prevents the latter from turning by vibration or concussion, which in the case of rock drills and other machinery often occurs if ordinary plu taps or valves are employed.

What I claim as my invention, and desire to s ecure by Letters Patent is 1. In a plug cock, the combination with a tapering casingmpen at the wider end and ow milling serrations and threaded externally at said end', an internall'7 threaded cap ada ted to screw on to said n a tapering plug aving a stem at-one end formlng an annular shoulder, a packing com? posed chiefly of rubber ha an inner portion occupyinglthe spacewlilillin the cas' and between-t e plug and the screw cap an an outer portion of a diameter approximatin the internal diameter of the screw ca as estos acking ybetween said elastic pac ing and t e plug and means for pressing said cap u on the casing whereby the outer portion o the elastic packin is nipped between the cap and the wider en surface of the casing effecting a tight joint between these parts and the remain er of the packing is forced into the casing against one end of the plug so las to make a tight resilient joint between the plu and the casing and whereby'said elastic 1 lking is prevented from rotating with the ug. p- 2. In a plug cock, the combination with-a tapering casin open at the wider end and formed with s allow milling -serrations and threaded externally at said end, an internally threaded cap ada ted to screw onto said end, a tapering plug aving a stem at one end forming an annular shoulder, a packing composed chiefly of rubber having an inner portion occupying the space between the stem of the plug and the casingand an outer portion of a diameter approximating the internal diameter of the screw cap, asbestos packing between said elastic packing and the plug, means for pressing said cap upon the casing lwhereby the outer portion of the elastic packing is nipped between the cap and the Wider end surface of the casing effecting a tight joint between these parts and the remainder of the packing is forced into the casing against the shoulder and spindle of the plug so as to make a tight resilient joint between the plug and the casing and whereby said elastic packing is prevented from rotating with the plug,
and a spring adapted to force the plug against the packing.
