Description

CHARLES FRENCH GREEN, OF LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA.
ANTIRUST COMYOUND FOB STOVES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 23, 1909.
Application filed April 1, 1907. Serial No. 365,892.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHAnLEs F. GREEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Los ingeles, county of Lo s l-kn 'eles, State of California, have invented and discovered a new and useful Improvement in Antirust Compounds for Stoves and other Articles; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention or discovery relates to a new and useful composition of matter and anti-rust compound for stoves and other articles, used for cleaning and polishing stoves and other articles made of metals, and for preventing rust from accumulating upon the same.
My improved compound is useful in preventing the oxidation of metals generally, and for removing rusts that have accumulated thereon.
hay improved composition consists of the following ingredients combined. in about the proportions hereinafter mentioned, in every hundred pounds ofthe compound:
'Tallow, 76 lbs. Beeswax, 20- lbs. Turpentine, 2 lbs. Lamp black, 1 lb. Essence ofbitter almonds, 1 lb.
An equivalent of the oil. of bitter almonds, I sometimes use in place of the essence.
In manufacturing my improved compound, the tallo-w and beeswax are gently heated until they are melted and flow together. I stir and mix them thoroughly. The lamp black and turpentine, after having been stirred and thoroughly mixed, are poured into the mixture of tallow and beeswax, and the oil of bitter almonds is then added and the said ingredients intimately mixed and while in a fluid condition, the compound ispoured into molds of any con venient size, and when cooled, removed therefrom in the form of cakes, and in that condition, placed upon the market for sale.
In applying my improved composition of matter, containing the above mentioned ingredients, a cloth or a brush is rubbed across one of the cakes and removes suflicient mate rial to be applied to a stove to be cleaned, or metal surfaces of any kind to prevent rusts accumulating thereon.
After a thin coating of the soft semiplastic improved compound has been applied to the metallic surface, a clean piece of cloth or a clean brush applied to the thin coating of my improved compound will remove rusts from the stoves or discoloration from metallic surfaces of other articles desired to be cleaned.
The discolorations accumulated upon the surface of brass, copper and the like, are readily removed by a thin coating of my improved compound rubbed thereon and friction applied to the previously coated metals until the natural appearance of the metals again appears. The said composition of matter may also be used for cleaning articles of silver, table ware, knives, forks and the like, by applying to said articles a cloth containing a thin coating of the said compound, and gently rubbing the articles when all stains and discolorations will readily be removed.
Various metallic surfaces, containing oxidations, tarnish and stain, will present the natural metallic luster by gently coating the said surfaces with my improved composition and applying friction thereto.
Having now fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is
1. The herein described composition of matter, consisting of the following ingredients: tallow; beeswax; turpentine; lampblack; and essence of bitter almonds.
2. The herein described composition of n'iatter, consisting of the following ingredients in substantially the following proportions: tallow, seventy-six pounds; beeswax, twenty pounds; turpentine, two pounds; lamp-black, one pound; and essence of bitter almonds, one pound.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
CHARLES FRENCH GREEN.
Vitnesses JAMES R. ROGERS, M. IDA Pmnon.
