I To all whom it may concern:

Figure 1 is a side view, part broken away. Fig. 2 is a front view. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the spool clamp. fig. 4 is a plan View. Fig. 5 is a vertical section in the line 5-5 of Fig. 4.
Referring specifically to the drawings, 2 is the ordinary spool post on top of a sewing machine, the attachment comprises a base 1 having an upper flaring wall 1 a forming a cup which is secured to post 2 by means of ear 1 and set screw 3. The wall 1 has slots 1 at the side for the entrance of clamps 12.
The spool 9 fits on a centrally located finger 1 and is held fast by clamps 12 which are regulated by thumb-screw 11 which eX- tends through the base 1 and through threadholes in the depending outer ends of the clamps 12. These clamps have opposite curved inner ends to engage the lower flange of the spool, and they may be adjusted to hold spools of dilierent sizes.
A rod 4 extends vertically from the base of the cup and its upper end is bent to overhang the same and form a bracket to support the thread. An arm 6 projects from the rod and has a guide-hole for the thread. A pulley 8 is mounted to turn on the bracket, which has a guide 7 to hold the thread on the pulley and a guide-hole at the end, for the thread.
In use, the thread being supported directly above the spool will unwind easily, and if it should reel oil too fast and become loose it will rest in the cup and be taken up therefrom without disorder or tangling, or catching in the work or the machine.
I claim:
1. A spool holder comprising a cup, an adjustable spool-clamp therein, and a guide for the thread above the cup.
2. A spool holder comprising a cup having means therein to hold a spool, an overhanging bracket above the cup, having upper and lower arms with guide-holes therein, and a grooved roller supported by the bracket and over which the thread passes, between the holes.
