WITNESSES: a INVENIOR I ATTORNEY THE NORRIS PETERS 60., WASHINGTON, p. c.
WILLIAM B. WAIT, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
APPARATUS FOR EMBOSSING PUNCTOGRAPHIC WRITING.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 19, 1909.
Application filed. October 16, 1908. Serial No. 458,067.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM B. WAIT, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York city, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Apparatus for Embossing Punctographic Writlng, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to an apparatus for embossing punctographic writing and has for its object the reduction of weight and cost and the avoidance of expansion and contraction.
' The present invention is set forth in the following specification and claims and illustrated in the annexed drawing in which Figure 1 is a plan view of an apparatus embodying this invention the guide having been moved off the impression plate. Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal section of Fig. 1 the guide plate being on the impression plate in position for writing. Fig. 3 is a horizontal transverse section of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a sectional elevation of a modification showing a metal top.
In the above drawing is shown a frame composed of rails a and stiles a. These rails and stiles are secured together by any suitable connection such as a tenon in the form of a dovetail, mortise or the like. To this frame is secured in any suitable manner a cover or top I) made of built up veneer Fig. 1 or any light material such as zinc Fig. 4. This cover or top with the frame thus forms the base of the apparatus and to this base is hinged a paper clip cl. This paper clip is preferably secured to one of the rails a.
The base is provided with holes e located at each side thereof for engagement by ins or studs 0 on the metal impression be or plate f. These studs project from the bottom and top of the plate f. When the impression plate is placed on the frame the pins 0 extending or projecting from the bottom of the plate engage the holes 6.
At 9 is shown a metal guide which is provided with holes 72.. When the guide 9 is placed in position on the impression plate f the pins 0 engage the holes h on the metal guide g. This guide 9 is further provided with perforations for engagement by the stylus for embossing the punctographic writing on the paper held in place by paper clip d.
As seen in Fig. 2 the impression plate f is placed in position and the paper to be embossed is then positioned and held in place by the paper clip (Z after which the guide g is placed over the pins 0. The punctographic writing can now be performed.
This apparatus can be cheaply made and at the same time is strong and durable. It also avoids the expansion and contraction of the base. I-Ieretofore the base was made of pieces extending wholly from side to side like a drawin board thus requiring considerable selecte material having considerable Weight and also subject to expansion and contraction from dampness and dryness. These defects are overcome by the present invention which also results in the reduction of weight over apparatus heretofore in use.
What I claim is:
1. An apparatus for embossed punctographic writing comprising a frame and a top built up of layers of veneer provided with a paper clip and having holes at the side for engaging an impression plate.
2. An apparatus for embossed punctographic writing comprising a frame and a top built up of layers of veneer, said top having holes, an impression plate having pins for engaging the holes, and a guide plate adapted to engage said pins and having holes for the passage of a stylus therethrough to the impression plate.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
