anoenl'oz v THE mum's PETERS can, WASHINGTON, n. c,
HARVEY V. DELGER, OF COLORADO CITY, COLORADO.
MATCH-SAFE Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 19, 1909.
Application filed January 31, 1908. Serial No. 413,657.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARVEY V. DELGER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Colorado City, in the county of El Paso, State of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Match- Safes; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description 01- the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention has relation to match-safes or match boxes of the kind designed to be carried in the pocket and from which the matches are removed, one at a time.
The invention consists of an oblong casing or safe having the sides near one end slightly indented and then curved to form a partially rounded chamber in the casing in which is revolvubly held a cylinder with a seating or depression, so that the cylinder is rotated to receive a match, which is delivered through a slot in the side of the box.
The annexed drawings and characters of reference marked thereon form a part of this specification, in which Figure l is a side elevation of my device. Fig. 2 is an end view disclosing the delivery slot. Fig. 3 is a central sectional view. Fig. is a top view. Fig. 5 is a transverse section disclosing a match as about to be discharged. F 6 discloses a transverse section view, with the cylinder turned to close the discharge opening. Fig. 7 discloses the delivery cylinder in detached detail.
Similar characters of reference designate the same parts wherever they occur.
In the drawings 1 designates the body of the box and 2 a removable cap and 3, the bottom of said box. The body is made oblong in cross section, and one side has a slot 4 formed therethrough and near the said slot the sides of the box are somewhat indented as at 5 5 and then bent outward to give said end a somewhat rounded or cylindrical chamber, while the balance of the box is oblong.
Within the cylindrical end 6 there is arranged a hollow open seam cylinder, 7 shorter than the box, said cylinder having a longitudinal slot 8 formed in its peripheral surface in that its edges are turned inward as shown in Figs. 5 and 6. Within the cylinder 7 are the incised disks 9, and 10 positioned, short of the ends of the cylinder 7 through which there extends a spindle 11, adapted to turn at its ends in bearings formed in the ends 2 and 3 of the box. On the upper end of the spindle 11 there is secured a disk forming a head 12 having a milled edge by which the spindle can be turned.
The head 12 is provided with the collar let working upon the top 2, while secured to the spindle below the top or cap, is the collar 15, to prevent any longitudinal displacement of this shaft or spindle.
In ope -ation the part of the box not occupied by the cylinder 7 is filled with matches, and by holding the cylinder in an inclined position with the slot opening down and turning the said cylinder 7 by the milled headed-disk 12 a match will find a seating in the slot 8 so that when the cylinder is turned until the slot 8 registers with the slot at, the match will drop out of the box. There being but one match in the slot of the cylinder more than one match at each rotation of the cylinder will not be allowed to drop out. The ends 9 and 10 in the cylinder serve to support the match trapped therein. The end 2 of the box forms a cap and is removable and is held by means of the cars 16, which clamp upon the match-box.
01 course the box may be made of any suitable material and of any desired size.
hat is claimed is A pocket match safe, consisting of an oblong casing one end of which is cylindrical and which has a bearing within said cylindrical part, said casing having a delivery slot within said cylindrical part, a spindle removable within said bearing, said spindle having an operating head, two collars secured to said spindle near said head, a cap to close said casing held upon said spindle between said collars, an open-seam cylinder secured to said spindle having its edges turned in to form a receiving slot, and two incised disks secured to said spindle and said cylinder, said instrumentalities being arranged in the manner disclosed.
In testimony whereof, I aflix my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
HARVEY V. DELGER.
