UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ADOLPH SAURER, OF ARBON, SWITZERLAND, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO THE FIRM OF SCHUBERT & SALZER MASCHINENFABRIK AKTIENGESELLSCHAFT, OF CHEMNITZ, GER- MANY.
FABRIC-ROLLER FOR EMBRGIDERING-MACHINES.
Patented Jan. 12, 1909.
Application filed June 19, 1905. Serial No. 265,903.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ADoLPH SA'URER, a citizen of the Republic of Switzerland, rcsiding at Arbon, in Switzerland, have invented new and useful Improvements in Fabricltollers for Embroidering-Machines, of which the following is a specification.
My invention has relation to fabric rollers for embroidering machines, and a characteristic feature of said invention resides in an improved bearing to which the fabric is clamped and whereby the clamping is materially facilitated and the liability of injury to such fabric is minimized.
A further characteristic feature of my said invention resides in minimizing the weight of the roller without endangering its stability or liability to distortion or warping or bending under strain. But that my invention may be fully understood, I will describe the same in detail, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a roller such as referred to, embodying my invention, and Fig. 2 is a cross section thereof drawn to an enlarged scale.
In the drawings, a indicates a metal roller having a longitudinal peripheral seat for the stretching rod or bar (not shown), said seat being formed by two fiatsurfaces 6, b, at right angles toeach other, the roller being provided at each end with a suitable bearing for the revoluble shaft 8; for instance, the roller a may have a head a at each end provided with an axial bore for shaft 3, to which latter the roller may be secured in any desired manner. In order to reduce the weight of the roller to a minimum and in order to obtain a seamless and perfectly smooth roller I make the same of drawn steel tubing.
Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of my said invention and in what manner the same is to be performed, I declare that what I claim is:
1. A seamless smooth fabric roller for embroidering machines, comprising a thin drawn steel tube having a longitudinal angular seat parallel to its axis, the one portion of which seat is wider than its other portion, in combination with means for mounting the roller on a shaft.
2. A seamless smooth fabric roller for embroidering machines, consisting of a thin drawn steel tube having a longitudinal angular seat drawn therein parallel to the axis of the roller, the one portion of said seat being considerably wider than its other portion, no portion of said seat projecting beyond the periphery of the roll; in combination with means fitting into the ends of the tube for mounting the roller on a shaft.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name 'to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ADOLPH SAURER.
I'Vitnesses ARNOLD MoRsEL, HERNANDo on SOTO.
