To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ADoLPH KLEIN, a citizen of the United States of America, residing in the borough of Manhattan, city and State of New York, United States of America, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Collapsible Toys, Toy Furniture, and the Like and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same.

The present improvements relate to collapsible and foldable toy-furniture, such as toy wardrobes, toy chiifonniers, toy dressers, toy-Sideboards, toy and doll houses, etc. and the object of the invention is to provide a simple, economical and durable toy which, when not in use, may be packed or folded so as to occupy very little space for storage or shipping, and which is a source of amusement and instruction to children in repeatedly building and assembling, or in collapsing and folding, the toy.

The drawings show a toy chiffonnier and a dolls house which belong, especially, to the series of toys devised by me and called Ta-Ka-Part toys, and the parts thereof are usually composed of heavy and tough pasteboard.

Referring to the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a chiffonnier, assembled, embodying my invention; Fig. 2 is a like view, enlarged, showing the parts of such chiifonnier in disconnected relation Fig. 3 is a side view, showing the relation of the chiffonnier parts when folded; Fig. 4 is a per spective view of a dolls house, assembled, embodying this invention Fig. 5 is a perspective view of said house, with the front thrown open, to expose the interiorthe attic being broken awayand with the roof lifted therefrom; and Fig. 6 is a side view, showing the relation of the parts of the house, when folded.

The toys shown in the'drawing, each consist of a folding and collapsing framefor instance, one having two opposite panels, constituting the sides of a toy chiffonnier or of a dolls house, both having a hinged connection with a panel constituting the back of the toy.

As shown in the drawings, the frame has opposite side panels, C and C (Fig. 2) or C and C (Fig. 5), and the frame is also provided with a panel (C or C) which is directly hinged along one edgeas shown in Fig. 2 to one side panel, and hinged, along its other edge, to a leaf (C Fig. 2, or C Fig. 5), which is, in turn, directly hinged to the other side panel. The frame is rovided with a front panel or door (C or which constitutes the door of the piece of toy furniture or the front of the house.

The toy, whatever its construction, will have su orts, E and E (Fig. 2) or seats E and E fl ig. 5) secured to the inner faces of the side panels. For this purpose, I prefer to use small wooden strips extending crosswise of said panels. Each sup ort carries a pin (6 or e projecting upwarc y therefrom. Openings, c 0 are formed in the side panels near their bottom edges, and (as shown in Fi 2) are also sometimes formed in those pane s near their upper edges. The frame, when folded, is in a position to support and to be held by a panel F (Fig. 2) which has, near its ends, openings into which the pins e and e are fitted, thus utilizing the panel F to hold the sides in stiff relation, while said panel rests upon the supports E and E The panel F may represent a shelf in a chiffonnier, and when a plurality of panels, as F and J (Fig. 5), are used, they may represent successive floors of the dolls house. Each toy will also, preferably, comprise a base, a, readily separable from and attachable to the frame when in open position. To assure this, each base may have cross-wise wooden strips, 7) and b (Fig. 1) and b and 6 (Figs. 5 and 6) upon its up or face, each strip having pins (0 and 0 Fig. 2) which fit the o enings, c and 0, along the bottom edge of t e sides of the frame. To hold the sides of the frame into gripping relation with the strips of the base, a bottom panel (D, Fig. 2 or D Fig. 5) representing the floor of the house or of the chiffonnier-is closely fitted into the folded frame, as shown in Fig. 5, clamping the sides (C 0*) of the frame against the strips and firmly seating the ins of the latter, as illustrated at 0 into the ottom openings of the sides. frame is preferably provided with an eye (y, Fig. 1), which receives a hook 2 on the side of the frame.

To complete the toy, it may have a readily removable top G (Figs. 1 and 2) provided with cross-wise bottom strips H and H each having a pin, h or h and said top may be secured in a manner similar to the connection of the bottom. Or, as shown, in Fig. 5, the top may consist of two pieces of pasteboard (K K hinged together, and having The front of the side strips L and L, the Whole representing a readily removable and attachable peaked roof for the dolls house. The base may have (see Figs. 1, 2 and 3) short legs or supports a and 00 When folded, the new toy occupies very little space, as shown in Figs. 3 and 6. The compactness is, in a great measure, due to the leaf (0 or G which permits the panels C and C to be folded own against the panels C and C, notwithstanding the attachment of the Wooden strips to the side-panels.

I claim:

1. In a toy, a folding and collapsible frame comprising connected front, rear and side panels, and each of the latter panels having openings along its bottom edge, in combination with a removable panel within said frame and holding it in the desired open position, a base removably connected with said frame when in the open position and having pins engaging in said openings along the bottom ed es of the side panels, and with a top panel.

2. In a toy, a folding and collapsible frame comprising connected front, rear and side panels, and each of the latter panels having openings along its bottom edge and strips extending across said side panels above said openings and each provided with a pin, in combination with a removable panel within said frame and having openings for en gagement by the pins aforesaid to hold the frame in the desired open position, a base removably connected with said frame when in the open position and having pins engaging in the mentioned openings. along the bottom edges of the side panels, and with a top panel.

3. In a toy, a folding and collapsible frame movably connected with said frame when in I the open position, and having widthwiseextending strips provided with pins engaging in said openings along the bottom edges of the side panels, and with a top panel.

4. In a toy, a folding and collapsible frame comprising a rear panel, a side panel havin a hinged connection with the rear panel along one of its side edges, a leaf having a hinged connection with said rear panel along the other of its side edges, and a side panel having a hinged connection with the aforesaid leaf.
