To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, DANIEL F. BROWN, a

citizen of the United States, residing at South Framingham, in the county of MiddleseX and State of Massachusettalhave invented certainnew and useful Improvements in- Advertising Automatons, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.

My invention relates to improvementsin automatons for advertising purposes and particularly to such automatons as are adapted to advertise smokers supplies; and an object 'of my invention is to provide an automaton which will prove simple in construction, cheap in manufacture and eificient in operation. v

The cam 1' is connected by a link-rod 0 with the head 4; and as the cain Z is rocked by the cam s, the former communicates through the link-rod 0 a rocking motion to the head 4. The latter carries a pipe d which extends from a valve 1) to the opening 8 which represents the mouth a of the automaton; and as the head 4 tilts back and forth upon its pivots a under the influence of the cam Z, the valve 1) is turned and is alternately opened and closed to permit and arrest the flow of steam from the boiler it through the pipes 9 and d to the mouth opening 8. whereby steam is permitted to flow from the latter through the opening 15 into the pipe cl and thence through the mouth. The intermittent flow of steam from the mouth 0 ening 8 simulates the emission of smoke rom the mouth ofa smoker. A receptacle 7c is mounted upon the shelf 5 and into it drips the water arising from the steam condensed in the mouth opening 8, the water being led through the pipes 10 and c which are connecte by a flexible joint 6.

One of the arms, preferably the right arm 7 has embedded in it a crank-arm 22 mounted fast upon one end of the shaft q journaled in the brackets t and carrying a cam it. against which rubs the cam m upon the driving shaft 8. Thus, the cam m serves to actuate both the cams Z and n and thereby to rock the rock-shafts r and g and to tilt the head 4 and swing the arm 7. The cams Z.
