To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALONZO A. WARNER, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Britain, in the county of Hartford and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Meat- Cutters, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in meat cutters, and the objects of my improvement are convenience in assembling the parts with efficiency when assembled, efficiency in the forcing means, and to provide means for cleaning the threads of the case and clamp ring at the delivery end of the case.

A, designates the frame having at one end a tubular bearing 6 for the crank shaft 7, to
one end of which shaft the crank 8 is secured in any ordinary manner and. on the other end of which shaft the smaller gear wheel or.pinion.9.is mounted. The case. B is mainly cylindrical and provided with the usual hopper 10 at or near its receiving endv and also with a standard 11 which is received in a socket 12 at the other end of the frame A, and is held therein b means of the screw 13, thereby roperly locating the case in position relative y to the crank shaft and parts mounted thereon.
The interior of the cylindrical body of the caseis provided with straight longitudinal feeding ribs 14. The delivery end of the case is enlarged to receive an ordinary erforated plate 15 which is held in place against working outwardly by means of the internally threaded clamp ring 16 that is screwed upon the externally threaded portion 17 at the threaded end of the case. The said case is provided at its ho per end with a tubularshaft bearing or hol Ow boss 18';
The screw or. forcer C- is'provided at its delivery end with an oblong squared portion 19 to'receive the rotary. knife20 that'bears on the inner face of the perforated plate 15 in the Ordinary manner, the hub of the said knife having an oblong square hole 21, Fig. 5, to fit on the like squared portion 19 of the forcer. The said forcer also has at its outer end a ournal pin or shaft like portion 22 that is received in a central .bearing of the perforated plate the ordinary manner of similar meat cutters. The hopper end of the forcer has a shaft like portion which is divided into three parts, viz: a larger cylindrical portion 23, a smaller cylindrical portion 24 and an intermediate squared or angular portion 25. The larger cylindrical portion extends through the perforated boss or bearing 18 of the case and'projects a little therefrom when this end of the forcer is passed tionzand isnialler cylindrical-portion receive and" center the? larger and detachable gear wheel '26 which as shown is an internal gear that is driven by the smaller gear or pinion 9. The axial bore or hole through the hub 27 of this detachable gear 26 is of a shape and size at its respective parts to fitthese three .divi-. sions orparts of the said shaft, and isalso provided with a set screw 28 that impinges upon the. squared portion 25 of. the shaft to hold the larger-gear in place. 2 It is necessary to remove. orrloosen the larger gear wheel from that end'of the forcer. before the forcer. can be withdrawn from the case andwit is essential thatwhenin place it must notonly be secured against rotating independently of the shaft but must beheld centrally. and squarely thereon in order to have this remov-v able gear properly engage the teeth of the driving gear 9. The squared portion 25 of the forcer shaft in connection with the interior squared portion of the hub 27, hold the said gear against rotation, while the two.
cylindrical portions 23 and 24 .on either side that is its feeding screw portion which works within the case, differs from ordinary forcers by having what may be called a ratchet thread, that is to say the bottom 29 of the thread 30 within the cylindrical portion of the case is nearer to the said thread on that side of the thread which is nearest the delivery end of the case than it is to the opposite side of the thread. At the hopper end, or under the hopper, the thread is or may be of the ordinary construction. thread of the forcer widest on one side in the direction described makes the forward side of the forcer thread longer than usual and I prefer to make it nearly of a straight taper standing at an acute angle to the axis of the forcer so as to force the meat out radially against the feeding ribs whereby the efficiency of the feed is increased. The widest part of the thread is on that side which faces the delivery end of the case and the opposite or narrow side stands at an obtuse angle to the axis of the forcer. This efficiency of the feed is best maintained by straight longitudinal feeding ribs and a case body that is of uniform diameter from the hopper to the delivery end.
By making the internal diameter of the body of the case the same from end to end, the volume of the material passing therethrough neither increases nor decreases at different points in the length of the case, and thus the feed is uniform and the material does not work outwardly away from the feeding ribs, as it does in a case that enlarges towards the delivery end.
The delivery end of the case and the clamp ring or nut are propided with one or more recesses that cut through a part of the threads similar to the grooves of a screw cutting tap. As shown, 1 form three recesses 31 in the outer thread 17 of the case B and three like recesses 32 in the inner threads of the nut or clamping ring 16, so as to cut through a part of the threads, both on the case and in the nut to present the ends of the broken threads to the recess, care being taken to leave the outer thread or threads of each unbroken so that the meat which gathers around the outer edge of the perforated plate within the clamping ring will be re tained therein by the unbroken threads. At the sametime the meat that generally finds its way to a greater or less extent into the grooves of the threadswill be cleaned out of the said grooves by the act of unscrewing the nut or clamp ring. The same effect or result will be accorr. plished to some extent by making such recesses or breaks in the threads of one of the said parts, although it is better to have broken threads in both. The ends of the threads in the recesses of one part act as cutters to clean the meat out of the threads on the other part.

In a meat cutter having a case threaded at its outer end, a perforated plate and a threadd clamp ring for holding the said plate at the end of the case, the threaded end of the case having its outer thread; broken by recesses cutting through the said threads, while the remaining threads farthest from the said outer end are unbroken.
3. In a meat cutter having a case threaded at its outer end, a perforated plate and a threaded clamp ring for holding the said plate at the end of the case, the inner threads of the clamp ring being broken by recesses cutting across the said threads, while the outer one of the threads on the said clamp ring is unbroken.
4. In a meat cutter having a case threaded at its outer end, a perforated plate and a threaded clamp ring for holding the said plate at the end of the case, the threaded end of the case having its outer threads broken by recesses cutting through the said threads while the remaining threads are unbroken, and the said clamp ring having its inner threads broken by recesses cutting across the said threads while the outer one of its threads is unbroken.
5. In a meat cutter, a case having a receiving hopper at one end, a perforated plate at its delivery end, a cylindrical body portion of uniform diameter from the said hopper to the said delivery end and straight feeding ribs extending longitudinally of the said body portion and a screw forcer mounted to rotate within the said case, that part of the said forcer which is within the said cylindrical body portion having a thread that is widest on that side which faces the said delivery end and narrowest on its opposite side, the said widest side tapering from the bottom of the thread outwardly at a sharp angle of less than forty five degrees to the axis of the forcer, and the opposite and narrower side of the said thread extending outwardly at a blunt angle of more than fifty degrees to the said axis.
6. In a meat cutter having a case, with a tubular shaft bearing at one end, a screw forcer having a body for rotating within the said case and a shaft like portion at one end ada ted to be passed endWise through the said bearing from within the case, the said shaft like portion being divided into three parts, a larger cylindrical part fitting the said tubular bearing and projecting therefrom a smaller cylindrical part at the outer end of the said shaft like portion and a squared portion intermediate the said two cylindrical portions; and a detachable gear wheel having a hub with an axial hole there through, the said hole being fitted to the said three divisions of the shaft like portion of the said forcer, and the said hub having also a set screw for impinging against the said intermediate squared portion, substantially as described.

In a meat cutter, a frame having a socket for a standard at one end, and a bearing for a crank shaft at its 0 posite end, a crank shaft mounted in said bearing and having a crank at one end and a driving gear at its other end, a cylindrical case having a tubular shaft hearing at one end and a standard fitted to the socket of the said frame, a screw forcer having a body for rotating Within the said case and a shaft like portion at one end of the said body adapted to be passed endwise through the said tubular hearing from within the case, the said shaft like portion having three divisions, a larger cylindrical portion, a smaller cylindrical portion and a squared portion between the two, a detachable gear having a hub with an axial hole therethrough which is fitted to the said three divisions of the said forcer shaft, the said hub having also a set screw for impinging against one of the sides of the said squared portion and the said detachable gear when thus mounted on the said forcer shaft being in engagement with the driving gear of the crank shaft for being driven thereby.
