UNITED STATES WATSON H. cLiNE, 0F ELKHART, INDIANA... vnn'rmarmo mzvrcn non" wa'mn-cnosn'rs.
To all whom it may concern: I
Be it. known that I, WATsoN H. CLINE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Elkhart,' in the county of Elkhart and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ventilatin Devices for Water-Closets, of which the fo lowing' is'a in ventilating devices for water-c osets, and the object-is to provide means whereby the foul air and gases from the closetbowl can'b removed during use.
Another object is to provide awater motor for operating the suction means.
' The invention consists'of certain novel features of construction and combinations of parts which will be hereinafter described andpointed out in the claim. I
In the accompan ing drawings Figure 1 is a longitudinal vertical section of my invention; Fig.- 2 is a crosssectional view with the parts broken away, and Fi .3 is a rear view.
. A, represents the bowlo a water-closet of a "known construction having the usual water inlet 2 from the rear, Which encircles the top portion of the bowl through a channel 3 andis discharged from the channel sections.
through the mg. The rear. side of the bowl is hollowed out to form a recess or chamber 5, in which a housing or casing 6 is received. The housing or casing 6 is preferably made in two sections and is secured along its edges bybolts 7, passing through the flanges 8, 8 of the two At the lower'end an outlet pipe 9 opening 4 to the bowl for flushis formed whichdischar es the water into an outlet channel 10, which discharges into the Waste pipe (not shown). The casing 6-is securedto .a plate 11 by screws 13, 13, which pass into sockets 14 on the casing; The platell is secured to the rear bowl by means of screws-12,,-'12. Journaled in the casin on a shaft 15 is a water wheel 16 havin buc ets '17. "thereon. Mounted on the sha t 15 betweenthe bowl and casing 1s a suction fan 18. opening 19 is formed in the upper Specification of Letten Patent.

portion and on the rear side of the bowl leadmg from the interior to the recess 5. A pipe 20 which is connected to the water suppy is connected to the casing 6, through whic the water passes to the water wheel. As the wheel revolves the fan is rotated, creating a suction and drawing the foul air and gases through the o enings 19 into the recess or chamber 5 an passes out through the channellO, into the waste pipe. The pipe 20 is provided with a valve 21 for opening and closing the supply of water from the supply:

' rom the foregoing it will have provided a means for ventilating the bowls of water-closets which can be ap lied to the bowl and will be entirely hidden rom view, and the noise incident to the operation of the fan and water motor is removed. Again this attachment can be applied to the bowl and removed without in any wise interierinlg. with the flushing operation of the Itis evident thatsli ht changes might be made in the form (If arrangement of the several parts described without departing from the. s irit and scope of my invention, and hence exact construction herein set forth, but:
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: I
In 'a ventilating device for water closets,
be seen that 'I I do not wish to be limited to the formed in the rear side and in communication with the bowl, a water motor received in the chamber, asuction fan connected to the water motor, a pipe for supplying water to the motor which water is discharged through a channel'leadin from the chamber, and a plate secured to t e rear side of the bowl for supporting the motor.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
