To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN VAN DYKE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kalamazoo, Kalamazoo county, tate of Michigan,have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gas-Stoves, of which the foli lowing is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in gas stoves.
It relates particularly to the class of gas stoves usually designated as burner stands or gas plates.
The objects of this invention are, first, to provide in a gas stove of the class described, an improved frame. Second, to provide in a gas stove of the class described, an improved frame which is adapted to serve as a gas delivery pipe fora burner. Third, to provide in a gas stove of the class described, an improved grid and a support therefor. Fourth, to provide an improved gas stove in which the parts are very economical to produce and assemble. Fifth, to provide in a burner.
Further objects, and objects relating to structural details, will definitely appear from the detailed description to follow.
I accomplish the objects of my invention by the devices and means described in the following specification.
The invention is clearly defined and point ed out in the claims.
A structure embodying the features of my invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which Figure 1 is a plan view of my improved stove. Fig. 2 is an enlarged cross-section, taken on a line corresponding to line 2-2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail section taken on a line corresponding to line 33 of Fig. 2, the leg A being omitted.
In the drawings the sectional views are taken looking in the direction of the little arrows at the ends of the section lines, and similar letters of reference refer to similar parts through the several views.
Referring to the drawing, the main frame of my improved stove is made up of sections of pipe. These rail sections are joined by elbow couplings A which are carried by and preferably formed integral with the legs A. The grid or top B is secured to the main frame and supported by the bent arms 0. l
These arms are preferably formed of rods, and their lower ends are threaded into collars C arranged upon the side and end rails A of the main frame. The arms C are arranged through suitable holes provided therefor in the grid B and secured by nuts 0 arranged above and below. This effectively secures the parts in position and the grid may be adjusted upon the arms to bring the same to a level. The collars C are slidable on the side rails, so that they can be readily brought into proper relation to the grid for securing. The grid is provided with seats B for the burners B, which are conformed thereto, the top of the burners being on a level with the top of the grid, as clearly appears from the drawing.
Through the center of the burner is an opening I) which is surrounded by a gas chamber 5 having radiating arms I) in which are jet orifices 6', these orifices being preferably radial, as is illustrated. The top of the gas chamber is below the top of the burner. By forming the top of the gas chamber flat, the jet orifices can be readily bored therein. This facilitates manufacturing. By forming the burner plates so that the jet orifices are below the top of the same, the gas is delivered to the article seated thereon in the most effective manner, and at the same time means are provided for introducing air to the gas to the point of combustion. The opening I) through the center of the gas chamber allows the air to pass therethrough, so that the inner jet orifices are effectively supplied with air for satisfactory combustion of the gas. The burners are each provided with a gas delivery tube B, the outer end of which is adapted to fit over the delivery nozzles a. The end of the tube B is open for the admission of air at this point. This arrangement enables the removal of the burners when desired. Valves D are provided for controlling the delivery of the gas from the nozzles a. (See Eig. 2.) These valves are arranged in the plugs a in the outer arms of the cross-couplings A. The gas supply pipe A is connected to the main frame at any suitable pointsee Fig. 1.
By thus forming and arranging the parts, I secure a structure which is very economical to produce and is very strong and durable, having no parts which are likely to be broken in handling. The parts are also very easily assembled and accuracy in manufacturing is not necessary, as they can be readily adjusted. The gas is supplied to both the burners at an even pressure.
I have illustrated and described my improved gas stove in detail in the form preferred by me on account of structural simplicity and economy, although I am aware that it is capable of considerable variation in structural details Without departing from my invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is,
1. In a structure of the class described, the combination of a horizontal frame composed of sections of pipe, and hollow coupling members for said sections, legs for the frame formed integral With said coupling members, a burner in communication with said frame and supported thereby, and a grid also supported by said frame, said frame being in communication with a fuel supply substantially as described.
2. In a structure of the class described, the
combination With a horizontal rectangular frame composed of sections of pipe, and hollOW coupling members for said sections, a burner in communication With said frame and supported thereby, a grid, supporting arms therefor, and collars by Which said grid supporting arms are carried, slidably mounted upon said frame.
3. In a structure of the class described, the combination of a horizontal frame composed of sections of pipe, hollow coupling members for said sections, legs for same frame formed integral vWith said coupling members, a burner in communication With said frame and supported thereby, said frame being in communication With a fuel supply, substantially as described.
