IMPROVED ALARM-LOCK The Schedule .referred to in these fletters Patent and making part of the same.

Be it known that LNICHOLAS SEUBERT, of Syracuse, in the county of Onondaga, and in the State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Alarm-Locksrand do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, making a part of this specification, in which Figure 1 represents a front elevation of a lock, with my apparatus. attached, and

Figure 2 is a cross-section of the bolt, showing the projecting arm, for operating the alarm.

Letters of like name and kind refer to like parts in each of the figures.

My invention relates to a class of locks having secured thereto suitable mechanism, by means of which C C, and a tumbler, D, in the usual manner.

Pivoted to said plate, near the upper end of the vertical portion of the arm G, and between the latter and the tumbler D, is' a triangular cam, H, against which said arm is. caused to press by means of a spring,'I, as seen in the drawing.

The hub of the tumbler D extends through the tions, or cams d d, which, when said hub is caused to revolve, strike againstthe projecting angle of the cam H, and turn the same sufficiently to allow said projections to pass, when said cam is released and returned to its former position.

It will be readily seen that the motion of the-cam B will press back the vertical portion of the arm G, and raise the hammer, which, when said cam is released, is forced downwards by means of the spring I, and caused to strike upon the bell 11, giving an alarm, and that a like result is produced when the'tumbler D,is released and returns to its usual position, so that each time the latch O is withdrawn and released, the alarm is caused to sound twice.

In order that an alarm may be sounded when the bolt B is operated, an arm, I), is secured thereto, and projects horizontally through a suitable opening in the plate a, and terminates in a -shaped projection, or cam, which extends upwards, and strikes against a similar projection, g, secured to and extending downward from the horizontal portion of the arm G, whenever said bolt is moved in or out, and as the cam 11 has only a horizontal, and the cam g, a vertical motion, it will be readily seen that the latter will be raised and released, and an alarm sounded each time said bolt is moved.

Provision is made for suspending the action of the alarm, when desired, consisting of a bolt, K, secured to and projecting horizontally from the upper end of the arm G, through an opening in the side plate a where it is provided with a thumb-nut, L,'by means of which said bolt can be withdrawn, and the arm drawn backward until beyond reach of the cam H.

This apparatus possesses many advantages over any in use, intended for a like purpose, it being more simple in construction, less liable to get out of order, cheaper, and more effective, as it performs a like ofiice for both bolt and latch.

Having thus fully set forth the nature and merits of my invention,
