APPLICATION IILED NOV. 4, 1907.

lvi hmooes UNITED STATES WILLIAM L. KNAPP,
OF MARIETTA, OHIO.
INHALER.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, WILLIAM L. KNAPP, a citizen of the United States, residing at Marietta, in the county of Washington, and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Inhalers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a device for use in inhaling medicated vapors, which may be easily applied to the face of a patient and worn with comfort, provisions being made whereby the medicament may be inserted within the inhaler or removed therefrom while the device is applied upon the patient.
To these and other ends the invention resides in the novel construction of inhalers hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the drawing, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved inhaler showing the same in applied position. Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the inhaler. Fig. 3 is a central vertical section taken upon the line 33 of Fig. 2, and Fig. 4 is a horizontal section taken upon the line 44 of Fig. 3.
My improved device for inhaling medicated vapors is primarily .intended to be worn by a patient during sleeping hours and is intended. for the relief and cure for diseases of the bronchial and nasal tubes by the inhalation of a proper medicament inserted within the device.
As shown in the drawing my improved inhaler comprises a substantially skeleton frame, constructed of rubber or any other desirable material, and of a shape adapted to fit snugly over the nose of the wearer.
The numeral 1 designates the inhaler proper, comprising a central inclined portion 2, the angular sides 3 and 4, and a medicament compartment or chamber 5. The chamber 5 is composed of a top wall 6, preferably formed integral with the inhaler and having the perforations set, the rear wall 8 and bottom wall 9, also preferably formed integral with the inhaler and being provided with perforations 10 of a smaller circumference than the perforations 7 provided upon the top wall 6 0f the chamber.
The lower face of the inhaler is provided with a pair of slots or openings 11 forming an Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed. November 4, 1907.

{ entrance to the chamber 5, whereby the medicaments may be inserted or removed.
The sides 3 and 4 of the inhaler are each provided with eyes or staples 12 adapted for the reception of a tape or cord by which the inhaler is secured upon the patient.
From the above description it will be noted that I have provided an extremely simple inhaler, which is readily and easily attached to a patient, and which provides for the insertion or removal of a medicament by the patient after the inhaler has been secured in osition.
It will be further noted that by the construction of the frame of the inhaler above described, an open space is obtained above the medicament compartment upon both sides of the central inclined portion 2, and between the side walls 3 and 4, whereby a suflicient amount of air is imparted to the nose of the applicant to assure free respiration.
Having thus described the invention what is claimed as new is:
An inhaler for medicated vapors comprising a skeleton shield adapted to fit loosely upon the nose of the wearer, the inhaler being provided with a compartment having top and bottom floors, the top floor being provided with perforations and adapted to be positionedbelow the nostrils of the wearer, the bottom floor being provided with smaller perforations adapted to serve as air inlets to the compartment, the sides of the compartment being provided with cut away portions adapted for the reception or withdrawal of a medicament within the compartment and the height of the cut away portion being equal to the distance between the lloors of the compartment, and eyes upon the inhaler for the reception of a flexible element by which the device is retained in position upon a wearers nose.
In testimony whereof I afllx my signature in presence of two witnesses.
WM. IJ. KNAPP.
