Within the drum .is mounted a fixed shield El which covers about two-thirds of the interior of thel drum while the other third extending between the points marked l andA 2 `and which lies on 'thatl side against which theforced draft impinges has no interior shield. It followstherefore-that the shielded portion of the drum is rendered inoperative as a screening device and the waste collects `only on thepart lying betweenthe points land 2. Qand 3, and for the purpose of this lnventlon each brush is provided with a sep# all communicating with the single conduit D5 as shown in Figs. land 5. In Vthese figures the cylinders A only are visible, but iny Fig.vl 6 the combing cylinder and brush are' both illustrated. Instead of the traveling band F'obviously a roller such as' that indicated at H (Fig. 4) may be employed for the purpose of compressing and finally consolidating the vwaste collected on the screen EI and the fleece or sliver thus formed may be discharged by a chute J into a recepta` cle K. What I claim as my invention andv desire to secure by Letters Patent is l. In a combing machine the combination of, a lcombing member, a stripping member4 cooperating therewithto remove the waste therefrom, a casing inclosing those parts of l thev combing and stripping members which are in Contact with each other, means for creating a forced draft through the casing in a direction to take olf the waste from these members, a perforated screen situated within the casing at a point between the stripping member and the exit of the casing so that the waste. is arrested by this screen and consolidated by the air pressure with which it isdriven against the same, means for removing the waste thus collected, and means for subjecting the collected waste topressure whereby it is formed with `a iiece or sliver.

In a combing machine the combination of` a combing member, a stripping member cooperating therewithto removethe waste therefrom, a casing inclosing those parts' of the combing' and stripping members which are in contact with each other, means for creating a forced draft through `the casing in a direction totake oif the waste from these members and a traveling perforated screen situated within the easing at a point between the stripping member and the exit of the casing with means for freeing the waste arrested from the action-of the forced draft, when it hasl traveled a predetermined distance on the filtering screen.

In a combinemachine the combination of, a combing member, a stripping member cooperating therewith to remove the waste therefrom. a casing inclosing those parts of the combine and stripping members which' are in contact with each other, means for creating a forced draft through the casing in a direction to take oif the waste from these members. a traveling perforated screen situated within the casing at a point between the stripping member and the exit of the'casing'and moving insuch manner as to carry the wastefarrested to a point out of the rannte of theforced draft.. and a stations shield on that side of the screen to which the draft passes and coveringa portion ofv .the screen so that the draft cannot pass v are in contact with each other, means for uently` the Waste is released therefrom.- i f 4.
