Description
S. R. KELLEY. VEGETABLE GRATING DEVICE.
I I APPLICATION FILED JULY 24, 1908.
Patented Nov. 17, 1908.
, bearing in a bracket UNITED era??? SAMUEL RUFUS KELLEY, OF TOONE, TENNESSEE.
VEGETABLE-GRATING DEVICE.
Application filed July 24,
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 17, 1908.
1908. Serial No. 445,203.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL RUrUs KEL- LEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Toone, in the county of Hardeman and State of Tennessee, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Vegetable- Grating Devices; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in vegetable grating devices and comprises various details of construction, combinations and arrangements of parts which will be hereinafter fully de scribed and then specifically defined in the appended claims.
I illustrate my invention in the accompanying drawings, in which z- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the apparatus, and Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates a board which may be a standard of any suitable kind, and B is a shaft journaled in an aperture in said board, said shaft also having a member C fixed to said A gear wheel D is fixed to said shaft and is in mesh with a pinion wheel E having a crank shaft E which is journaled in said bracket and board or standard. The teeth of said wheels intermesh with each other and afford means whereby the shaft may be rotated through the medium of the crank. Fixed to one end of said shaft is a convexed grating disk F having brace arms F extending intermediate the same and the shaft upon which it is standard or board.
mounted. Gr designates a hopper shaped member which is pivotally connected at G to said board or standard and the lower end of said hopper is cut away, as at II, to allow the material being grated to pass therethrough. N-N designate springs, one of which is fastened to the upper corner of the hopper and its other end fastened to said board or standard and affords means whereby the hopper may be held normally in its farthest throw toward the board or standard. Said hopper is positioned at an inelinatlon to the rotary grinding disk, a space intervening between the two in which the article to be ground or crushed is placed. 1 The hopper may be withdrawn a distance from the board, putting the springs under tension, and the article to be ground being placed between the grinding disk and hopper will be held by the pressure of the springs against the grinding surface.
By the provision of a vegetable grinding apparatus as shown and described, a simple and efficient device is afforded whereby vegetables may be held while they are being grated by the springs, the latter normally drawing the hopper toward the grinding surface.
[ \Vhat I claim to be new is A device for grinding vegetables, etc., comprising a standard, a shaft journaled therein, means for rotating said shaft, a grinding disk upon said shaft, a hopper pivotally mounted upon said standard, springs fastened to the upper ends of the hopper and also to said standard, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I hereunto ailix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
' SAMUEL RUFUS KELLEY.
