SAMUEL SAVIIS, OF LOUDONVILLE, OHIO.
, MACHINE FOR CUTTING CORN IN THE 005.
SPECIPICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 295,819, dated March 25., 1884.
Application filed September 19, 1883. (No model.)
To atZZ whom it may concern Be it known that I, SAMUEL F. SAVITS, of Loudonville, in the county of Ashland and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Machines for Cutting {Join in the Gob; and I do herebydeclare that machine for cutting corn in the cob. Fig. 21's a longitudinal vertical sectional View of the same. 3 is a vertical transverse sectional View through line at 00, Fig. 2; and Fig. 4 is a top view, with the top of the machine removed.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Myinvention has relation to machines for cutting corn in the cob tofodder; and it consists in the improved machine, constructed as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed. I
In the accompanying drawings, A represents the frame or casing of the machine, which has an inclined floor, B, and the inclinedfeed-table O.
, D represents the shaft, which is journaled in boxes or bearings in the sides of the ma chine, and has a fly-wheel, E, and band-pulley, F. 4
Fixed upon the shaft E are a series of saws,
G, which are spaced by circular disks or washers H. I do notlimit myself to any particular size or number of saws, as their size and number would of c0ursevary with the size of the machine itself. By reference to Fig. 4 it will be seen that the saws project between teeth I, which are fixed in a block, J, in the front part of the machine; and as the corn is fedto the rotating cylinder, which revolves in the direction of the arrow, it is effectually cut up and crushed between the teeth of the revolving saws and the fixed teeth or crushers I, the cut and crushed corn dropping down upon the inclined floor B, from which itcan readily be shoveled into the feed-bins.
By this construction of thesaw-cylinder any sharpening or in case of breakage; and in arranging the saws upon the cylinder, care should be taken to have the teeth of the saws alternate with the notchesthat is to say, the saws are so arranged upon the shaft that the teeth of one saw will be opposite to the notches of the two saws next to it.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of my improved machine will readily be understood without requiring further explanation. It Will be seen that there are no complicated parts to get out of order, and, with proper care, no accident can result by the use of the machine, inasmuch as the chopping-cylinder is completely inclosed within the casing.
I am aware that machines for cutting and one of the saws can readily be removed for I crushing corn in the cob have been heretofore constructions, broadly; but
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is
The herein-described machine for cutting and crushing corn in the cob, comprising the frame A, inclined feedtable G, inclined floor B, shaft D, having fly-wheel E and pulley F, circular saws or cutters G, the teeth of one I do not saw being arranged opposite to,the notches of 0 the two saws next to it, spacing-disks H, and fixed teeth I, between which the saws G project, thewholeconstructed and arranged to operate substantially in the manner and for the purpose shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereunto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
SAMUEL F. SAVITS.
