SAFETY-GUARD FOR RAZOR S.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 10, 1908.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HUGH WATSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Grand Island, in the county of Hall and Statev of Nebraska, have invented a new and useful Safety-Guard for Razors, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to safety guards for razors, and has for its object to provide an improved safety guard by means of which its teeth will be accommodated to permit of proper use of the razor in its position when use in shavin This object is carried out by the articular construction of the safety guard ereinafter set forth, in which the teeth are set at a slant.
The invention, consists in a safety guard for razors constructed as hereinafter setforth and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings :Figure 1 is a view in elevation and transverse section of a safety guard-with a razor lade secured thereto mounted on a handle, t e guard being constructed in accordance with thisinvention. Fi ..2,is a plan view looking at the under si e of the guard, the handle detached. Fig. 3 is a modification of the guard.
Fig. 4. is a detail view of a portion of theguard showing the shape and position of the teeth.
The which 1s provided at its longitudlnal edges with the rows of teeth, 3 and 4. The said ""teeth of the said rows are obliduely disposed in relation to the ion itudina said guard 1. In the orm of the invention, as illustrated in Fig. 2 of the drawing, the teeth 3 and 4 are inclined in the same general direction, and when this form of guard is used it is the intention that the razor may be usedwith one hand only. The said teeth 3 and are formed with the tapering or con verging sides 5, and the outer edge portions edges of the guard consists of the body portion 1,.
of the said teeth gradually verse thickness, as indicated at 6 1n Flg. 2 of the drawing. The said teeth 3 and 4 are located upon the beveled surfaces 7, provided at the edges of the said guard-plate, and, by reason of the fact that said teeth are so posltioned, and have the peculiar configuratlon described, the area between the teeth toward the middle of the late 1, is gradually d mmished; thus the lat er and beard WlllCh is removed from the face of one using the razor 1s gradually ushed from between the teeth as it ap roac es the middle of the guard-plate 1. Thus it will be seen that a free passage or dischar e of the said matter or material 1s afiorde I I The form of the guard-plate as indicated m Fig. 3 of the drawlng is slmilar 1n construction to that shown in Fig. 2, with the exception that the teeth 12, of the set at the opposite side of the said late are disposed 1n opposite directions. ith this form of guardpla'te, one ma use the razor w1th elther the right or the le t hand.
In both forms of the mventlon as shown and described the razor-blade 10, is held 111 osition against the guard-plate 1, by a backing plate 9, which is mountedupon a rod or stub 10, which enters the handle 11.
What is claimed is A safety guard for razors, consisting of a plate having beveled edges and teeth spaced from each other, and being located upon the beveled surfaces of the edges of the plate, and bein disposed obliquely with relation to the beve ed edges. 0
In testimony that I claim the roregomg as my own, I have hereto affixed my slgnature in the presence of two w1tnesses.
' HUGH WATSON.
