Referring to the drawings in which similar reference numerals designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, 1 indicates the bodyof the shovel which may be of the usual or any preferred form in the bottom of which is provided an enlarged opening 2.
, Disposed along the lower end. and each edge of the opemn 2 and spaced from the sides of the bodyo the shovel are grooves 3 and 4, respectively, which'are formed by 5o striking down a portion of the metal and A. further object is to provide means for entirely closing the opening in the shovel whereby the same may be employed as a directingthe same in the position shown in' F 2 of the drawing thereby forming the metal frame 5 in which is disposed a screen 6 which is preferably formed of meshed In securing the frame tothe shovel said frame is directed into the upper ends of the grooves-4 and directed longitudinally there in until the lower end of the frame is seated in the groove-3, thereby providing convenient means for removably scour the frame grooves in which is adapted to lee-seated a Y to the shovel and at the same time by disposing the metal, .forming'the rooves, in
the manner shown, the edges of t e opening 2 are reinforced.
in use the shovel is filled with unscreened ashes and by shaking the shovel the finer particles of the ashes descend through the screen while the cinders and unconsumed portions of the'coal remain in the shovel thereby enabling me to provide a suitable screen ate um amount of cost and by removing the screen and inserting a metal plate 7 in the grooves the shovel may be em 1n the bottom thereof.
