This invention relates more particularly to the soil connections ol' witter closets; and the primary objectihcreof is to provide simple and efficient means whereby the soil l connection may bc reniovalily held. to the bese or flange ol' the osiizdcloset in soon e wey as to provide a ierfect closet connection having e. proper ses.; which dispenses with the usual wipe joint, brass floor flange etc.;

In each end 33 is a slot 34 which may be eiilarged at one part so that the head of a bolt 35 may be passed therethrough, and thcbody of the bolt forced into the narrower portion to hold the head of the bolt under the ends. These bolts 35 project upward within the sealing chamber 29 through openings in the base 12, and on the upper end of' said bolts are nuts 36 or other fastening means, though instead of the key-shaped slots 34 shown, other forms of slots or means may he provided for fielding tfie bolts to the device 32. The closet may thus be set and positively held in any desired position relatively with respect to the fitting or connection.

W'hen the connection 18 is of iron, itmay have the openings 37 on each side thereof at or near the bend to which theusual vents may be connected at either side thereof, and it may also have openings 38 at the side thereof to which the waste may be connected from bath-tubs, basins orother means'. The fitting or connection 18 is made so that either or both

openings

37 and 38 may be used or only one of each, in which case the other may be closed with a suitabie plug, thus adapting the fitting to he used either as a right or lefthand connection.

I f the sealing medium within the chamber is of a kind that` becomes very hard, as laster of paris foi' example, and if it is desire( to remove the fitting, it often ha )pens that the flange projecting from the closet base will break during such removal, particularly if both flanges of' the sealing head are integral with the rest ofy tfic fitting. In such case l may make the flange 39 removable as shown in Fig. (l. 'l`he flange 39 may be of any suitable material, whether porcelain or metal,

and said flange has its upper end fitting an annular recess 4() inthe closet base 12, around which may be a suitable sealing medium 41 to prevent the csi-,ape of gases around the saine. 'lhis flange 39 may have lugs through which the screws 43 or other means )ass and by which the flange may beheld to t e closet base. lt will be understood that the outer flange 29 of the sealing head is always reH movable when a liquid or senii-liquid scaling medium is used, or a medium to which heat may be applied to soften, as paraffin, and that when a sealing medium is used in the head 20 which makes the flange 29 substarv tially integral with the other part or parts of' the connection, the said flange in such. a case would not be removable without iii some way loosening said medium. However, it wil be understood that the flange 29 may be removable at any time when the connection is not attached to a closet, and that the iiivention is not limited to a removable flanve, as in some instances the said flange may e fixed or made to form a permanent part of the connection.

From the foregoing it will be seen that simple and eflicient means are provided whereby a perfect seal is secured between the closet and the soil connection; that the closet may be )ositively held to the connection or fitting an adjusted relatively thereto and sealed in such a way that the closet may be readily removed from the fitting; that the outer member of the'sealing head ma be uickly and readily removed and anot erp aced in its stead in case of breakage or for other reasons, and that simple means are provided whereby the usual lead bend with its objectionable features are dispensed with, and the waste from bii.tfitiibs, basins, and the like coniicctcd direct with the soil pipe.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A soil connection provided with two flanges forming an annular chamber, bolts removably holding the outer flange to the connection, a device within the chamber and movable relatively thereto, and bolts adapted to hold the base of a suitable closet to the device so that the latter may be adjusted relatively to the connection.

2. A soil connection for closets, provided with vertical annular flan es formin a sealing chamber, a movable evicehel Within the chamber, and bolts ada ted to hold the closet to the device so that t e latter may be adjusted to the connection.

5. The combination with a closet having a pendent flange, of a soil connection provided with vertical annular flanges forming a chamber into which the said closet flange projects, means for removably holding the outer flange adjustable device held within the chamber, and means for holding the closet to the device so as to be adjusted relatively to the connection.

6. The combination with a closet havin a flange projecting downward therefrom, o a soil connection having flanges forming a scaling head providing an annular chamber in which the flange of the closet base projects, an independent device niovably helo within the chamber, and means connecting the device with the base of the closet and adapted to adjustably hold the closet and connection together.

7. A soil connection having a sealing head providing an annular sealing chamber, an independent device entirely located and adjustably held within the chamber, and means connected with the device adapted to hold the connection to a closet base.

9. A soil connection for closets, comprising an iron L-shaped body portion having vent openings on each side thereof( for the escape o as and openings on each side thereof to wluch the waste for baths and the like may be connected, a sealing head comprising two flanges projecting upward from the body portion and forming an annular chamber adapted to form a seal with the closet, a flange projecting horizontally outward from the connection and forming a base for the sealing head, an annular horizontal flan e Within the outer flange of the sealing hea adapted to fit over the base of the connection, bolts for removably holdin the outer flange of the sealin head to t e base, an annular horizonta flange projecting inward from the in.- ner flange of the sealing head within the sealin chamber, a semi-circular movable device he d under the horizontal flange of the inner vertical flange and within the sealing chamber and provided with slotted ends, and bolts adap'ted to hold the connection to the closet base.

10. A soil connection for closets, comprising a body portion having ventsl for the escape of gas and an opening on each side thereof to which the Waste for baths 'and the like may be connected, a sealing head having two flanges projecting upward from the body ortion and forming an annular chamber adhpted to form a seal with the closet, means within the outer flange of the sealing head adapted to fit over the base of the connection, means for removably holding the outer flange of the sealing head to the connection, an annular flange projecting inward from the inner flange of the sealing head within the sealing chamber, a movable device held under the annular flange within the sealing chamber and provided with slotted ends, and bolts adapted to fit the ends of the movable device and hold the connection to a closet base.

11. A soil connection for closets, comprising a body portion, a sealing head having two flanges projecting upward from the body portion and forming an annular chamber adapted to form a seal with the closet, a flange projecting horizontally outward from the connection and formin a base for the sealing head, an annular an'gc projecting inward from the inner flange of the sealing head within the sealing chamber, a semicircular movable device held under the annular flange within the sealin chamber, and means engagin the movab e device and ada )ted to hol the connection adjustably to t e closet base.
