Description
:titled tant @tout P. W. LAMBERT, or NEW YORK, N. Y.
. Letters Patent No. 90,276, dated May 18, 1869.
IMPROVEMENT IN SEWING-CASE AND POCKET-BOOK COMBINED.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom tt 'may concern:
Be it known that I, P. W. LAMBERT, of the city, county, and Stat-e of' New York, have invented a new and improved Sewing-Gase and Pocket-Book Gombined; and I do hereby decla-re the following to be a` full, clear, andexact description thereof, which will enable those skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being.,r had to the accompanying drawing, forming part 0f this specification, in which drawing- Figure 1 represents a sectional view of this invention, when the pocket-book is open, and the sewingcase closed.
Figure 2 is an elevation of the same, when the pocket-book is closed, and the needle-cushion drawn out.
Similar letters indicate corresponding parts.
This invention consists in the arrangement of a tubular sewing-case, in the bight of a pocket-book, said sewing-case containing a sliding needle cushion, end room for a spool of thread, and for a thimble, in such a manner that access to the utensils contained in the sewing-case can be had when the pocket-book is closed, as well as when it is opened, and that the sewing-ease does not in any way interfere with the ordinary use of the pocket-book.
A represents a pocket-book. ot' any convenient' construction.
In the fold 01 bight of this pocket-book I apply a tubular sewing-case, B, which is provided at one end with a needle-cushion, c, secured to a pin, b, that projects beyond the tube B, and is furnished with a head,
c, so that by pulling the hea-d the needle-cushion can be withdrawn to the position shown in iig. 2.
The needles or pins are stuck into the cushion in au oblique position, so that the same will be compressed when the cushion is pushed into its tube, as shown in iig. 1, and that they will expand when the cushion is withdrawn, as shown in fig. 2, assuming a convenient position to be taken ont for use.
The end of the tube B, opposite that occupied by the needle-cushion, affords room for a spool of thread, d, and for a thimble, e, the thimhle being of such a size that it ts nicely into the end of the tube B, and forms a. cover, preventing the spool from dropping out.
By these means, a pocket-book and sewing-case are colnbined in a convenient manner, so that neither the sewing-case interferes with the ordinary use and convenience of the pocket-book, nor the pocket-book with that of the sewing-case, and that the articles contained in the sewing-case can be used' when the pocket-book is closed, as well as when it is open.
Having thus described my invention,
That I claim as newrand desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The tubular .sewing-case B, containing a needlecushion, a spool, and a thimble, in combination with the pocket-book A, and secured'to the same in the manner shown and described.
P. W. LAMBERT. Witnesses:
" W. HAUFF,
Gnus. WAHLEBS.
