' citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented 'a new and use ful Tracker-Bar andMusic-Sheet Mechanism, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to music playing instruments and attachments in which a dou-' ble tracker-bar is provided, or a pair of tracker-bars having two sets of channels of different range.

The principal objects of my invention are to provide means whereby a simultaneous closing of one set of channels and opening of the other can be provided for in such a way that'the music sheet can operate from'the open one in the usual way, and also to provide for so manipulating the music sheet as to cause. it to operate across the surface of the tracker-bar or bars so as to cover either.

It has also been proposed to provide movable tracker-bars for similar purposes.

In order to do away with certain complications which arise under such constructions, and to provide simplicity of operation, and especially to secure the automatic closin of one set of channels when the other is opened,

The two slides or other guides for manipulating the c'applates are preferably operated by the same means to withdraw one when the other is applied. In the construction illustrated I have employed a simple lever 23 for accomplishing this result. This lever is piv oted between the slides an'd'is provided with an adjustable connection with each, slide on opposite sides of its pivot, and-may also be provided with a handle 24 or other means to enable the operator to manipulate it. The shafts 26 carry the music-sheet rollers in the ordinary u ay, and it will be obvious that by the swinging of the frame 25 about its pivot the rolls can be moved from the position shown in full lines to that shown in dotted lines, so as to bring the music-sheet into either of the desired positions.

A tracker-bar having two sets of air conducting conduits opening in one face of the bar, one set containlng a larger number of conduits than the other, and a series of channels located entirely within the bar and extending directly from each one of the smaller sets of channels 'to'one of the channels in the larger set.

3. In a music playing device, the combination of a tracker-bar having two sets of tracker-bar conduits, channels entirely within the tracker-bar connecting the conduits of on'eset with the conduits of the other set, and a single means for simultaneously closing the 0 en ends of one set of conduits and open ing t 1086 of the other.

I11 a music playing device, the. com bination of two sets of tracker-bar conduits, cap-plates, one for covering each set of conduits, and means connected with both of said cap-plates for simultaneously withdrawing one cap-plate and moving the other capplate in positionto cover the conduits of one set.

In a music playing device, the combination of a plurality of sets of tracker-bar conduits, a corresponding number of capplates, and a single means connected with each of said'cap )lates for simultaneously moving one cap-plate over one set of con duits, andwithdrawing another cap-plate from another set of conduits.

6. In a music playing device, the combination oftwo sets of tracker-bar conduits, a cap-plate for each set, a slide upon which each cap-plate is pivotally mounted, and means for simultaneously moving one slide toward the open ends of. the conduits and withdrawing the other therefrom.

7. In a'music playing device, the combination of two sets of tracker-bar conduits,

-a cap-plate for each set, a slide upon which each capplate is pivotally'mounted, means for simultaneously moving one slide toward the open ends of the conduits and withdrmving the other therefrom. and means for simultaneously swinging the cap-plate which is moved toward the conduits into position over their open ends.

8. In a music playing device, the combination of a tracker-bar having two series of conduits, a pair of cap plates, one for each series, a pair of slides on which said cap plates are pivotally mounted, each cap-plate having an arm extending to the rear of its pivot, a pair of springs mounted on'said slides for engaging said arms and normally forcing said cap-plates toward the trackerbar, and a lever pivoted between the slides and. connected therewith for simultaneously moving the slides in opposite directions.
