Be it known that I, JOHN Nrcnonson, a citizen of the United States, resldmg at `'I4`rackville, in the county of Schuylkill and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and use ful Improvements iuCarbon Pencils of Electric-Arc Lights, of which the l following is a specification.
My invention-relates to carbon pencils of electric arc lights and particularly tothe -lower carbon of lower electrode.i
My invention relates more specifically to the cored lower electrode of the so called luminous arc light. e
AMy invention will be more readily uncerstood by reference to the accompanying drawin which is' a. longitudinal sectional E an electrodeembodying iny invention in its preferred form.-
Referring nowV to the drawings, 1 indicates a carbon pencil which is designed as the lower electrode of? an arc light. This 'is centrally cored as at 2, and filled with a suitable mixture as at 3, which is composed lof any of the substances now used for this purpose.

Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Leti ters Patent is `1. An electrode for an arc light compris ing a cored carbon pencil having a metal cap and a 'metal strip secured to said cap and extending 4 substantially centrally through the core, s'ubstantiallyfas described.
2, An electrode foran arc light comprisL ing a cored carbon pencil having a metal cap and a metal strip secured to said cap and eX- tending centrally through said core and terminating at a. distance from the socket end, substantially as described.
3. An electrode for an arc light comprising a cored carbon pencil having a metal cap and a metal jacket,` substantially as described.-
