Be it knownthat I, GEORGE A. FRANCIS, a citizen of the United States, and residing at VVestfield, in the county ofUnion and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pillow-Sham Holders, of which thefollowingis a specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. i

This invention relates to pillow sham holders; and the object thereof is to provide an improved device of this class comprising};v

a frame composed of separate parts adjustable longitudinally so as to adapt it for use in connection with beds of different widths, and which may also be held in an upright position when not in use so that the pillow shams and frame will be out of the way when the bed is occupied.

The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in-which Figure 1 is a perspective view of the head portion of a bedstead provided with my improved pillow sham holder, Fig. 2 aside view of one of the head posts of the bedstead and indicating the pillow sham holder in different positions, Fig. 3 a partial section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1, and ;-Fig. I. a perspective view of one of the head posts of the bedstead and showing a modified form of a part of the sham holder. y

In the drawing forming part of this specification, I have shown the head portion of a bedstead, and in the practice of my invention as shown in Figs. 1 to 3 inclusive I provide clamps which areadapted to be con-- nected with the head posts a.

In this form of construction the head posts a are round and in the practice of my invention I provide clamps 6 adapted to be connected therewith and which comprise a movable j aw b and a stationary jaw 79 provided with a projecting arm having a front upright member 0 provided at the upper end with a forwardly directed extension 0 having an aperture 0 The movable jaw If is provided with a tongue 6 adapted to be passed through a corresponding aperture at the point where the arm 0 connects with the b and the clamps Z) are connected with the posts a by passing a bolt cl through the jaws b and b of the clamp, or in any other desired manner. I also provide a pil- Qlowsham frame e composed, in the form of onstructiohshown, ofa'heavy wire or a rod and consisting of two separate end members =0 each of-which comprises a transverse end portion 6 and parallel side portions 6 connected at 7 their inner ends by transverse members 6 and each of the side portions 6 of the pillow sham frame is provided with eyes 6 through which the corresponding side parts of the other are passed, and in this way the separate end portions of the pillow sham frame are made adjustable one upon the other.

Each end portion of the pillow sham frame is also provided with a backwardly directed arm 6 comprising a rod, the end of which is passed through the corresponding aperture 0 of the corresponding clamp and formed into a loop e of predetermined length and free to turn in said aperture, and by nreans of this construction the pillow sham frame may be turned down into position for use as shown in full lines in Fig. 1 and in dotted lines in Fig. 2, or it may be raised into a vertical position as shown in full lines in Fig. 2 and in dotted lines in Fig. 1.

When the pillow sham frame is in an upright or vertical position it moves downwardly, and the back of the loops a strike against the upright member 0 of the arm a of the clamps b and holds said frame in an vupright position and when it is desired to lower the pillow sham frame as shown in full lines in Fig. 1, the said frame is raised so that it can be turned forwardly and downwardly.

In Fig. 4 I have shown a modification in which the head post a is angular in cross section, and I have also shown an attachment which takes the place of the clamp or clamps Z) and comprising an angular army adapted to be secured to the post or posts as shown at f by bolts or in any preferred manner, and the arm f is provided at its front end with an uprightmember f having a forwardly directed extension f provided with an aperture f, the arm f and parts P, f and f thereof being similar to the arms 0 of the clamps b, and the parts 0 0 and 0 thereof. Various other changes in, and modifica tions of the construction described may be made, within the scope of the appended claims, without departing from the spirit of my invention or sacrificing its advantages.

Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

2 A pillow sham holder comprising clamp devices adapted to be connected with the head posts of a bedstead and provided with forwardly directed arms having upwardly directed flat extensions, the flat surfaces of which are in a plane parallel with the head portion of the bedstead, said upwardly directed extensions being provided with forwardly directed members having apertures formed therein, and a frame provided at its opposite corners with parallel rods which are passed through said apertures and formed into loops which secure said frame to said forwardly directed members, said loops being movable longitudinally in said members and acting in connection with the upwardly directed extensions of said arms to hold said fame in an u )right position while permitting said frame to be lowered forwardly and downwardly.
