. Beitknown that I, J OHN, KOHKE, a citizen of the UnitedStates, residingin Atlanta, in the county'of Fulton and State of-Georgia, have invented a new and useful Improve ment in Machines for- Manufacturing One- Piece Folded Sheet-l\fetal Turpentine Cups,
of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates .to improvementsin machines for manufacturing long, narrow, deep, one-piece folded sheetmetalturpentine cups ,having substantiallyiupright or slightly T flaring sides and widely flaring ends .andin.-

My invention is a machine for-folding the integral angle folds or wings at the corners of the on orreceptacle againstthe flaring: ends thereof, onepair ofsuchwingsionangle folds overlappingthe other, and it comprises in cooperative combination a horn mounted upon, amovable slide and conforming to the interior of the sheetinetal cup,;a=lo.wer'stationary wing foldingdiexand ,anf.upper reciprocating Wing'folding die mountedlupon a reciprocating slide independent of the horn slide, each of said wing folding dies-being faurnished with inclined or flaringdie memers. i

In operation the former blank X is placed orn Band thenthe crank C through folding die D thus causing the upper pair of 'win s 00 on the blank X to be partially folded own against the flaring ends 00 of the blank X, thespring B causin the horn B to offer sufficient resistance to t e up er wing folding die D to accomplish this pre iminary folding of the upper pair of win s 20 so that the upper pair of Wings 90 will fa 1 within the lower pair of such wings, and then the further downward movement of the slide D carries with it the horn slide B and thus causes the horn B by its cooperation with the lower wing folding die D to fold the lower pair of wings m rupward and to overlap the upper pair of wings x and then, as the upper f0 ding die D completes its downward movement, the two pair of wings on the blank X are completely folded against the flaring ends, as illustrated in Fig. 7. As the upper folding die D withdraws or returns to position the spring B restores the horn and horn slide to position and causes the up er end of the ejector stem B or the lug on t e horn slide to which it is secured to lift or free the folded cup from the lower folding die D.
I claim:
1. In a machine for folding the Wings or angle folds of a oneiece-formed sheet metal blank against the aring ends thereof, the combination with a horn having flaring end faces mounted upon a reciprocating slide, of a lower stationary wing folding die having inclined or flaring die members, and an upper reciprocating wing folding die having inclined or flaring die members, substantially as specified.
2. In a machine for folding the wings or angle folds of a one-piece-formed sheet metal blank against the flaring ends thereof, the combination with a horn having flaring end faces mounted upon a reciprocating slide, of a lower stationary Wing folding die having inclined or flaring die members, and an upper reciprocating wing folding die having inclined or flaring die members, a spring acting against the said horn slide to cause the movable folding die to fold one pair of angle folds or wings in advance of the other pair so that the final pair will overlap the first pair, substantially as specified.
3. In a machine for folding the wings or angle folds of a one-piece-formed sheet metal blank against the flaring ends thereof, the combination with a horn having flaring end faces mounted upon a reciprocating slide, of a lower stationary wing folding die having inclined or flaring die members, and an upper reciprocating wing folding die having inclined or flaring die members, a spring acting against the said horn slide to cause the lnovable folding die to fold one pair of angle folds or wings in advance of the other pair so that the final pair will overlap the first pair, and means for freeing the formed and folded blank from the horn folding die, substantially as specified.
4. The combination with a movable horn having flaring end faces, of a stationary wing folding die and a reci )rocating wing folding die acting to move the iorn in cooperation with the stationary wing folding die after starting the folding of the )air of wings en aged by said wing folding ie, substantiaIly as specified.
5. In a machine for closing or folding the wings or angle folds of a one piece folded sheet metal vessel against the flaring ends thereof, the combination with a horn having flaring die faces, of Wing folding dies on opposite sides of the horn and having inclined or flaring die members and means for causing said wing folding dies to successively act against the horn, substantially as specified.
