On the edge'of the door opposite the hinge rod 7 is mounted a vertically sliding bolt rod 13, lwhich is secured in place in any suitable way as by straps 14 riveted or attached to the inner face of-the door. This bolt rod 13 extends throughout a substantial ortion of the height of the door, and is provided at its upper end with a bolt 15 projecting laterally vtherefrom and at or near its other end with a similarbolt 1,6. These bolts are substantially' the same in construction and they eX- tend laterally a suflicient distanceto project across the outer flange 17 of an upright angle iron arranged at one corner of the' locker Iwith its upper and lower endsA attached to the bars 10, 11 and constituting thesid'e of the door frame, so that when the `bolts '15, 16
1, 2 and 4l, they-will prevent the door from' being opened. The'bolt rod is held against rotation beyond a certain degree, by a staple 18 which projects through an aperture or slot 19 in the door 1 and is arranged contiguous to a companion staple 20, which is carried4 through Ithe face of the door 1 and secured by a rivet 21 to side flange 4. Thus when the staple 18 is opposed to the staple i 20the rod 13 is held against rotation and the door is consequently bolted at top and bottom by the bolts 15, 16. This rotary movementV ofthe rod 13 is also prevented asknobv or handle 22 secured to the rod 13 andprojecting througha slot 23- formed vertically in the fa'co of the door but the up per end of this slot is formed with an offset or notch 24 so'that the. rod 13 may be lifted by means of the'knob -22 until the staple 18 passes above' the staple 20, as shown in Fig.

When the rod is thus lifted, t e bolts'l, 16 come opposite notches or apertures 25, .26 respectively, fornied in the flange 17 and thus allow the door to be opened. In order` that the rod 13 maybe locked against vertical`iiioveiiient for preventing' the door rfrom being opened,a padlock, not necessary` to illustrate, may be passed through thev staplev 18, 20, or, if desired, the rovided with an suitable permutation loci 27 having a bo t 28 adapted to pass through the staples 18, 20. In addition to this lock 'or as a substitute for this the door maybe-provided with a key-lock 29 having a bolt 30 adapted to engage over a lug 31 projecting from the rod 13 and thus prevent the rod from being lifted. j r

f 'n The opening movement ofthe door may be v limited, if desired, by a stop 37secured to angle iron'38, which, together with the angle irons or bars 10, 11 and 17, completes the door frame. This sto 37, it will be seen, is so close to ther plane o the locker as not to be ob'ectionable and at the same time it is a sufficient distance from the axis of the hinge to be effective in stopping the door. This is because the hinge is situated within the locker and conse( uently a considerable distance. from thep ane of the outer face oi` front of the locker, and it is also situated a considerable distance laterally from the edge of the door frame, as shown in Fig. 3, thus leaving a space between the angle iron 38 and the face of' the door when the door is open, but when it is closed this space is filled or closed by that portion'of the door which projects beyond the hinge and towards the angle v'iron 33. Not only-does this arrangement enable me to provide the door with aA neat and effective stop for checking its opening movement, but-it locates the hinge entirely within the locker and protects the hinge pintles from the possibility of being driven out or dislodged from their sockets 9,
The closing or inward movement of the vdoor atA the opposite edge is prevented or stopped by the hooks 35 as well as by the straps 32 which receive the impact of the bolts 15 as the door closes and thereby throw the staple 1S off the staple. 2O in the yevent the jar should lnot be sufficient to do so;
The lock per se which'is showii and dcscribed in this application has not been claimed herein, as it constitutes the subjectmatter of the claims of my i ending application Serial No. 272,949, file August 7, 1905. lHaving thus described .my invention what I claiin as new therein and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is: y
1. In a locker door the combination with the doorfraine, of a sheet metal door proper having flangesat its edges turned at an angle to the face of the door, means securing the ends of said flanges together at the corners of' the door, a rod secured to one edge of the door and extending from top to bottoni thereof and having its ends passing through the said flanges at the top and bottoni. of the door, and means for journaling the ends of said'iod on'the door frame.
2. In a locker door the combination with the door frame, and the door pro er hinged therein, of a flange arranged on t ie edge ofthe free side of the door, and ahook orv catch secured to the inner side of the frame for e'inbracing said flange. l
3. In a locker door the combination with the door frame and the doorpro er, of a hinge supporting the door within t ie frame and having its axis arran ed'in'wardly from the outer face of the door rame and laterally from the edge of the door frame contiguous to the hinge, and a stop situated'on the outer side of the doorfraine and projecting laterally into the door-way or opening.

In a locker door the combination with the door frame and the door pro vier, of a hinge supporting the door within ltlhe frame and having its axis situated inwardly from the plane of the outer face vofthe frame and laterally from the edge of theframe contiguous to the hinge, the hinged edge of the door being projected towards the frame beyond the ,axis of the hinge whereby when the door is opened a space will be left between the face of the door and the fraine,and a door stop projecting across the said space and acting etween the door and frame for limiting the opening movement of the door.
5; In a locker door, the' combination with the door frame and the door proper hinged thereto, of a flange on the edge of the free side ofthe door projecting inwardly, and a hook secured to the inner side of the frame and extending around the edge and sides of said .flange for holding the flange against movement transversely of the door-way.
