T o all whom il 'may fourmi:
Be it known that l, .loser-ii A. Gsrsnv, a.'
'Ihc details of construction, arrangement, und operation of thc invention src hcrcmiifu-.r described, and shown in accoiiipiinyin-tliawing,` in which `igure l lo s longitudinal section of a bottlc with my invention applied thereto. Fig. 2 is s to i view. Fig. 3 is a cross sectionon thc lino: -3of Fig. l. Fi 4 isnside view of the bottle-stumm and ri attached thereto.
The bottle-neck B has at thc base a shoulder b on which the conical flans stopper A rests. The lower portion o Athe stopper is smooth, and the up er one provided with vertical ooves C, tic intervening ribs being align ar in cross section. The wp of the stopper is also grooved and ribbed radially. The grooves extend to the edge of the angles of the side rihs, and the intervening ribs are shorter, since they extend to the inner angles or grooves between the side ribs. The latter are the highest parts of the mp of the stopper. Above the chamber N in which t e stopper A is free to move verticali there is formed a series of vertical grooves and intervening angular ribs, the latter projecting inward so that the upper end of the stopper may seat upward einst them. The numlior ogroovcs D is i illorent from the uuinlwi' forni in the stop rA. Above the grooves D is the passage in the liottlefncck, which is enlrifed from the lower end upward.
A H is attached to the stopper A, and it is made thin and hcnce more oiisily breekable at F. The rod extends up through the noch L and its urpose' or f iinctioii is to raise the stopper A rom its seat b, so that liquid poured into the bottle. After the ldottlii has been filled, the rod is broken oil' at -F und the stopper dropsto laos thereby clocinl the passage. It will understood that t e stopper is inserted into the bottlein the process of manufacturing the tt e. In order to empty the bottle, it is inverted or inclined at a suitable Y le whereby the stopper A will move, by vity, into the upper art of the chamber and the contents of t ie bottlewill then pass throuh said chamber and around the enl hea of the valve, and tlius out through t e'neck of the bottle. In other words, the grooves C, E, .and D provide passages through which the liquid contents aas without serious hindrance. When t e bottle is again placed u right, the stopper A will fall to place at thereby closing the passage and preventing any li uidfroin entering the liottlejaropsr.v
It wil be seen that by the provision of grooves in the top of the stopper, not only are `channels provided for ou ow of liquid and the stop ier prevented from raised by suctionl ut the several radial grooves uide s. wire or other inted instrument inserted from above. yother words, the wire thus inserted will strike in, andl travel out, any one of the radial ves and thus mach s point at the side of t e'stopper which is intermediate of the side grooves or corru gations. v
Whst I claim i8.- l. The combination, with the bottle-neck hsvingsn enlarged chamber N, with valve seatl b, and s series of vertical grooves D in the space above said chamber,.of a conical vslve A having a smooth lower rtion and its upper portion rovidegt with, on tudiiisl side rroot-errand ahndits tcppo onwith radis. :grooves and rihs,'l\lbetantial ly as describei. l
2. The combination with the bottle-neck liiiving iin enlarged chamber N with contracted valvev seat below and a' series of vertical grooves above, of a stopper formed of some easily frangibls material, the' upper portion of the stopper bein grooved on the side and top, es shownand eecribed.
3. The combination of a bottle-neck havin sn enlargsdchamber with narrowed seat be ow, and s'seriesof vertical the spiice above, of a conical' stopper fadapted to sect in the lower portion of said chamber D um n and provided in its upprr pnrtiun with aidu two f-|| l. criling witnesses, ihis fourth lay of grooves und ribs, and 1n thc top with grauw-s Junv l.N)7. and intona-ning rilm, thv. hmnr lwing higher i thnn tlm tops of tho side rlm, nu nlmwn nml 8 descriml.
In lvstimnny wlwrml, have signed my mmv to \his s|wclicntinn in the prvsom-u uf I
