The bottle-neck B has at thc base a shoulder b on which the conical flans stopper A rests. The lower portion o Athe stopper is smooth, and the up er one provided with vertical ooves C, tic intervening ribs being align ar in cross section. The wp of the stopper is also grooved and ribbed radially. The grooves extend to the edge of the angles of the side rihs, and the intervening ribs are shorter, since they extend to the inner angles or grooves between the side ribs. The latter are the highest parts of the mp of the stopper. Above the chamber N in which t e stopper A is free to move verticali there is formed a series of vertical grooves and intervening angular ribs, the latter projecting inward so that the upper end of the stopper may seat upward einst them. It wil be seen that by the provision of grooves in the top of the stopper, not only are `channels provided for ou ow of liquid and the stop ier prevented from raised by suctionl ut the several radial grooves uide s. wire or other inted instrument inserted from above. yother words, the wire thus inserted will strike in, andl travel out, any one of the radial ves and thus mach s point at the side of t e'stopper which is intermediate of the side grooves or corru gations. v
