CHARLES R'WEGENER AND HENRY E. HANSON, OF WINONA, LIINNESOTA.
" CABINET.
To all wk 0m. it may concern:
I Be it known that we, CHARLES B. Wile- ENER and Hnxnr E. Hanson, citizens of the United States, residing at W'inona, in the county of Winona and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and/useful In1- provements in Cabinets; and we do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in cabinets for phonograph records.
The principal object ofthe invention is the rovision of an improved device of this kind y means of which thcrecords may be conveniently arranged in position within the cabinet in such a manner as to permit of ready access thereto.
IVith these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as will be more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claims;
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a front elevation of a cabinet constructed in accordance with the invention, parts broken away; Fig. 2 is a vertical transverse section taken on line 22 of Fig. 1, a number of the drawers of the front series swung into oocn position; Fig. 3 is a horizontal section, taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 2; Fig. 4 is a plan view on an enlarged scale of one of the drawers; Fig. 5 is a cross section takenon line 5 5 of Fig. 4, and Fig. 6 is a longitudinal section taken on line 6-6 of Fig. 4.
In the embodiment illustrated an upright cabinet 1 is shown comprising side pieces 2 provided with inwardly extending front and rear back strips 3 and 4 respectively. A vertical series of spaced horizontally disposed supporting shelves 5 is arranged at the front and also atthe back of the cabinet, with the outer side edges of the shelves flush with the outer faces of the front and back strips, the opposite ends of the shelves being formed with reduced portions 6, the inner faces of which tit snugly against the inner faces of the front and back strips and the ends of which fit in corresponding sockets or recesses formed I Specification of Letters Patent i Application filed June 8, I908. 'SEI'iM'NOJQTQJi).

in upright supporting strips 7 arranged at the inner corners of the cabinet. A series of 7 drawers 8 is arranged at the front and rear of the cabinet, each of said drawers being of approximately rhomboidal form or com rising parallel side pieces 9 connected by ob iquely disposed end pieces 10. Each series of drawers is pivoted in position to the cabinet at one of its front corners by an upright pivot rod 11 which extends through corresponding apertures 12 in the shelves and through tubular blocks 13 arranged at the adjacent innercorners of the drawers.
In practice, each series of drawers is iv, oted near the adjacent side of the cabinet and are provided-at their opposite corners with catches 14 adapted to engage with corresponding sockets or recesses formed in the inner side edges of the adjacent front and back strips 3 and 4 respectively. A record holder 16 of approximately rhomboidal shaic is arranged in each of the drawers, said holder comprising two or more series of corresponding tubes 17 which may be con nected or cast together to form the holder in one single piece, this latter method being possibly preferable as the several tubes would not be so apt to become separated. '80 Each record holder is slidably mounted in its respective drawer upon supporting strips 18 arranged on the inner faces of the front and back pieces of the drawer a suitable distance from the bottom 19 thereof. outer portions of each series of tubes being flattened as at 20, to slide against the front and back pieces. The front piece of each of the drawers is of somewhat greater width than the rear piece and is provided with two or more longitudinally spaced cleats 21 un der which are adapted to slide a corresponding number of the front series of tubes when the record holder is arranged in the position indicated.
A securing block 26 is arranged between the inner face of the back piece and two of i the tubes of the rear series of each of the. record holders to hold the latter against longit-udinal movement or displacement within 100 its respective drawer, said securing block being detachably held inposition by a fastening screw 27 srrewing through the rear or back piece of the drawer into the block. To
The 85 V remove either of the record holders from position it is only necessary to remove its se" curing block 26 or if. desired the fastening screw of the block mav only be removed when the holder may be slid longitudinally within its drawer a suflicient distance to disengage the front series of tubes from the cleats '21 after which operation the holder may be readily liftedfrom position. Each of the drawers is provided with a lining of felt or other cushioning material to provide a bed for the lower ends of the records which as is evidentare arranged in removable position by inserting them through the respective tubes of the holders. '1. he end piece at the pivoted end of each of the drawers is provided with a stop 29 of cork or other suitable material which is preferably fitted in a socket in the outer face of said end piece and is adapted to abut against the adjacent side of the cabinet when its drawer is in normal or closed position. Each of the drawers is also provided at its corner adjacent to said stop with a. downwardly extending pin 30 which is adapted to be receir d by a spring metal keeper plate 31 screwed or otherwise attached to the inner side edges ofthe supporting shelves when the drawers are swung outwardly to a position approximately at right angles with the cabinet. If desired, the
tubes of the record holders may be provided with fleece linings 3?. to provide a bed for each of the records. The front piece of each of the drawers is provided with a. plate holder 35 33 to receive a card or plate bearing the nature of the records contained in that particular drawer. 'It is to be understood ofcourse that each record holder may embrace any desired number of series of tubes and that 40 each series of drawers may comprise any desired number according to the capacity desired.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection wit-h the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention. will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.
Various changes in the form, proportion and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of theinvention, as defined in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what 5 we claim as new is:
