To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT DE LONG, Sr., a citizen of the United States, residing at Shamokin, in the county of Northumberland and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Music-Rack and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The invention relates to music racks, and has for its object to provide a music rack adj ustable vertically and having upper and lower clamps for holding music or a book clamped to said rack, and means carried by said lower clamp for releasing all the clamps simultaneously.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists of the novel arrangement of parts hereinafter described and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a front elevation of a music rack constructed in accordance with this invention. Fig. 2 is a similar view, showing the reverse side of the device. Fig. 3 is a side view. Fig. 4 is a vertical sectional view taken through the lower clamp. Fig. 5 is a transverse sectional view taken through the lower clamp.
Referring to the drawings, 1 designates a standard on which is slidably mounted, a music rack, said rack including clam s 2, 3 and 4. Clamps 3 and 4 are integra with arms 5 and 6 which, by means of pivots 7 and 8, are mounted at their up er ends in slots 9 and 10. A stationary 00k 11 is mounted on the upper part of standard 1 and is designed to be removed if desired. The hook 11 is made stationary so that when this device is used continuously for holding music of similar sizes, the same can be placed in this hook and the upper part held by clam s 3 and 4. The clamp 2, is provided with ro s 12 which extend upwardly and pass through slots 13,and connect with the arms 5 and 6. The lower portion of clamp 2, is pressed outwardly by a spring 14 which actuates the clamp. It will be seen that the actuation of clamp 2, draws the rods 12 downwardly which actuate clamps 3 and 4. Likewise, when clamp 2 is pressed inwardly, it forces the rods 12 upwardly, which release clamps 3 and 4, as will be readily understood. It will be seen that when the clamp 2 is moved upwardly, the loops (1 will cause the arms 5 and 6 to spread outwardly.
What is claimed is,
1. A device of the character described, embracing a plurality of clamps, supporting means therefor, longitudinally movable means of connection between said clamps, and resilient means applied to one of said clamps for the automatic retention of said clamps in effective position, said latter clamp being adapted as pressure is applied thereto, to effect by the aid of said means of connec tion the synchronous movement with said clamp of the other clamps.
2. A music rack having a standard, a clamp mounted on the lower portion thereof, clamps mounted on the upper portion thereof, and adapted to cooperate with the former, rods connecting the upper and lower clamps and a spring mounted in said lower clamp for actuating all of said clamps simultaneously.
3. A device of the class described, comprising a standard, a clamp mounted on said standard, said clamp being provided with arms pivotally connected thereto, said arms having clamps in their upper ends, actuating rods connecting the lower clamp with the up per clamps, all of said clamps being vertically adjustable.
