Beit known that I, ALFRED HAsBnoUoK, of Ithaca,
, in the county of Tompkins, in vthe State of New York," i have invented a new Machine for Securing Leather and Cleaning the Hair from Hides previous to their being tanned; and I do hereby declare the following to be a `full and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing, and to letters markedthereong This invention consists' vin providing a beam, A, set upuslantinf'; from the floor, a frame, or bed-piece, on which is secured a 'bed-'piece B, of hard-wood.

The manner of operating this machine isas follows:
The operator stands between the tieadle and the crossbeam, laying #the 'ieather tovbe scoured, or hide to be cleanedof hair, on the bed-piece; then Vplacing hisfootfon the treadle, and bringing the cross-head, Withfthe sleeker in it, on the leather or hide, and, by its motion forward, rubbing the leather or hide sucient; `then shifting the piece on the bed-piece to an other part, and so on, untilthe whole is finished.
