Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Movable-Point Crossings, of which the followingis a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, of Which Figure 1 is a plan view of a movable point crossing, showing my invention applied thereto. Fig. 2 is an enlarged plan view of one of the main track-rails embodying my invention; showing the hard-metal wear-piece, constituting the knuckle thereof. This invention relates to the track-rails of movable point crossings, the object being to provide, at the knuckles of said track-rails, a hard-metal wear-piece of novel construction, whereby a strong and efiicient structure is secured, and the life of the rails materially lengthened.

To this end the invention consists in cutting away the head of the track-rail for some distance on each side of the knuckle, and securing to the web of said track-rail a hardmetal wear-piece having a head portion taking the place of said cut-away rail-head; the said hard-metal wear-piece forming the usual apex or knuckle at a point adjacent the points of the movable point rails.

8, extending downwardly therefrom on the outer side of the track-rail, and its lower edge supported upon the base of the rail. The sald web, 8, and web, 3, of the track-rail are secured together by'suitable bolts, 9. The inner edges of the said hard-metal block, 6, are in line with the gage lines of the trackrail, as seen in the drawings, said edges meeting at an apex, to form the usual knuckle, 2.

The hard-metal block, 6, is provided, at each end, with an extension, 10, comprising head and web portions, 11 and 12, (Figs. 5 and 6), the head portion thereof being fitted to and abutting against the outer side of the trackrail, and the web being secured to the trackrail web by the bolts, 9. The ends of the head portions 11 of the extensions 10 are beveled downwardly, to form pick-ups for guttered wheels; that is, wheels having false flanges worn on the outer edge thereof.

It will be seen that by maintaining the web and base of the track-rail integral throughout the entire length of the hard-metal block or piece, and supporting the same thereon and securing it thereto, a very strong and efficient structure is attained, at a minimum expense; the rolled metal rail affording an excellent support and reinforcement for the hard metal block, 6, which is usually a casting.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. In a movable point crossing, a trackpiece having the head portion replacing the said cut away portion of the track-rail, said hard-metal head portion resting upon and being supported by the web of the track rail, together with means for securing said track rail and hard-metal piece together, substan tially as set forth.

2. In a movable point crossing, a trackrail bent to form the usual apex or knuckle, and having its head cut away and removed on both sides of said knuckle, the hard-metal piece having the head portion replacing the said cut-away portion of the track rail, said hard metal head portion resting upon and being supported by the web of the track rail, the web on said hard-metal piece whose lower edge is supported on the base of the rail, together with the bolts securing said webs together.

3. In a movable point crossing, a trackrail bent to form the usual apex or knuckle, and having its head cut away and removed on both sides of said knuckle, the hard-metal piece having the head portion replacing the said cut-away portion of the track-rail, said hard-metal head portion resting upon and being supported by the web of the track rail, said hard metal piece being provided with the end extensions comprising head and Web In testimony whereof, I have hereunto portions, the said head portions being bevafliXed my signature.
