This inventionis an improved stopper for bottles, particularly for use in bottles contaimng poison or other da erous'subs tances, the ob ect of the inventiotiieing to provide a stopper which also forms a cap and which necessarily consumes some time while it is being removed from'the bottle so that it serves to indicate that the contents ofthe bottle are of unusual character, to' caution the personusing the bottle.
T e said invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement ofdevices hereinafter shown and described.
In the accompanying drawings,'Figure 1 is a side elevation of a bottle provided with a stopper and a cap. constructed in accordance with this invention. Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the same. Fig. 3 is a detail transverse sectional view through the stopper and cap. v The bottle 1, which may otherwise be of anysuitable construction, is provided on the suitable point with screw-threads 2. The mouth of the bottle is flared, as at 3. 1 The stopper 4, which may be made of glass or of any others'uitable material, is of inverted truncated conical form. to fit the flared mouth of the bottle, and its base or outer end is is of such size and shape/ as to inclose the mouth and outer ,end of the neck of the bottle' and is provided with interior screw the threads 2,0n the neck ofthe bottle and effect a tight screw connec- -tion therewith and also serve to wedge or seat the stopper tightly inthemouth of the bottle. Preferably the said cap is of polygonal form cross sectionally to provideangugood pp larl disposed faces 7 to afford su aces and facilitate the application of-the stopper; and ca to. and removal thereof from .ottle.
the which bearsagainst the outer side of neckof the bottle is here shown as e. sleeve portion of the cap the provided at its internal] threaded end with externally located annu ar heads 8 which serve to strengthen the construction thereof and also united to acap 5 which I do not desire to limit myself to the precise construction and arran ement of devlces herein shown and describe as modifications may be made therein within the scope of the ap ended claims.
' aving thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, is z 1.' In combination with a bottle having a screw thread on its neck at a distance from its mouth, a cap having a sleeve (portion to fit on the mouth of the bottle, sai sleeve portion being interiorly threaded at its lower end to engage the threads of the bottle neck and being further provided with externally located annular beads to strengthen the construction of the threaded portion of the sleeve, and a stopper on the innerside of the cap and disposed within the sleeve, said stopper being united to the cap and movable therewith when the sleeve. ls-screwed or unscrewed on the bottle. I
2. In combination with a bottle having a screw thread on itsneck at a distance from its mouth, a cap having asleeve orti on to fit on the mouth of the bottle, sai sleeve portion being interiorly threaded at its lower end to engage the threads of the bottle neck and being further rovided with externally located annular heads to strengthen the construction of the threaded portion of the sleeve, and a sto per on the inner side of the cap and dispose within the sleeve, said stopper being united to the cap and movab e therewith when screwed on the bottle, said sleeve having angularly dis osed faces on that portion thereof which is a ove the beads to afford gripping surfaces.
