Description

No 897,444. r PATENTED SEPT. 1, 1908. D. BALLIF. I MEANS FOR. SECURING WHEELS 0N AXLES.
v APPLICATION FILED FEB. 25, 190B.
, 194mm; I fizwnfw/ UNITE L l STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DAVID BALLIF, OF BIEL, SWITZERLAND.
MEANS FOR SECURING- W'HEELS ON AXLES.
Application filed February 25, 1908.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, DAVID BALLIF, a subject of the Swiss Republic, and resident of Biel, Switzerland, have invented Means for l Securing heels on Axles, of which the fol- I lowing is a specification.
The present invention relates to means for securing wheels on axles, which effectively prevent the unintentional withdrawal of the bolt from the axle.
In the accompanyi g drawing, how the invention is conveniently practice, in which drawing:
Figure l is a side elevation of the axle furnished with the securing means, and Fig. 2, is a section on line A. of Fig. 1.
bolt provided with an eyet. c is is shown put into such a manner that the lower portion of said eye is embraced by the bent up ends of the ring 0. This embraced portion of the bolt is preferably notched as shown at f, in which said notches fit the bent up ends of the ring.
\Nhen securing a wheel on its axle by the aid of the described device, push the wheel on the axle and insert the bolt a in a corresponding hole provided near the end of the axle. Then pull the bent up ends (Z of the ring 6 Specification of Letters Patent.

apart, so that it can be slid over the eye I) and push it thereafter on the end of the axle, until the said bent up ends can fit in the eye I), and the notches as shown at Release the bent up ends of the ring, when the former will engage with the eye and the notches respectively. If the wheel is to be detached, pull the bent up ends apart, pull the ring off the axle and withdraw the bolt afterwards, whereupon the wheel can also be withdrawn from the axle.
Having now fully described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1- Means for securing wheels on axles, comprising in combination, a bolt (a) an eye (b) provided on said bolt, said eye having notches, (f), a cut off ring (1;), bent up ends ((1) on said ring, which are adapted to fit in the eye and the notches, substantially as described and shown and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
DAVID BALLIF.
