PHON O GRAPH-DISK-B'ECORD CASE Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 18, 190s.
Application filed January 27, 1908. Serial No. 412,713.
To all whom it mag/concern:
Be it known that I, IsIDoR HEREMAN, a
subject of the King of Hungary, residing at dex, for the classification of records.
in position and Other features of improvement will hereinafter appear.
To these and other ends -my invention comprises the novel arrangements and combination of parts to be hereinafter explained and finally claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part hereof, wherein- Figure 1 illustrates a front elevation of my improved record cabinet; Fig. 2 is a top plan view'thereof,`the cover being opened;
1g. 3 is an enlarged cross-sectional detail view of my ini roved device, the section be ing taken on a ine a-a in Fig. 2,' Fig. 4 is an end view,l partly in section, of vmy im moved cabinet' shown suspended from a wa ,.Fig. 5 is an enlarged face view of a form of index prefer bly used in connection with my cabinet; Fi 6 is an enlarged fragmentary ver.`
tical sectional view of the casing, cover and inner removable shell therein contained, and
shows the manner of pivotally supporting'the cover and securin the inner removable shell ig. 7 is an enlarged fragmentary detail view showing the manner, of .removably supporting the partitions in the lnner auxiliary shells.
Similar referencecharacters indicate like parts in all the views.
- Referring now to the drawings, particularly to Fig. 3, 1 indicates the casing or baseportion of my im roved cabinet, while 2 indi- 1 l "cates the rotatab y mounted cover, 3 the inner removable shell and 4 one of the inner auxiliary removable shells which is carried movable auxiliary shells 4 contains a plu'- rality of compartments 5, in this instance three. I canemploy as many of such compartments as I desire, the outer case- 1 of course, being made long enough for the purose. Ipartments 5 are removably held in place by the beadings 6a, and may be faced with felt or The walls or partitions 6 of the com-- other soft material, to prevent the records I from becoming mutilated.
To pivotally mount the cover 2 this instance., 'employed a spindle 7 (see Fig. 6), which is threaded, as at 8, to engage a threaded hub 9 on the ends of the outer shell or casing 1. The threads on said spindle do not connect with the opening 1.0 in the cover 2. The spindle 7 passes freely through the cover 2; the end of said spindle however, is adapted to enter an opening- 11 in the end I have in Walls of the inner removable shell 3. A cover or stop 12 limits the inward movement of the said spindle to prevent the end walls of the members 1, 2 and 3 from becoming/bound.
The length of the spindle 7 will be just enough I to enter well into the opening 11 of the inner removable shell 3. By unscrewlng the spindle 7, the inner removable shell 3'can be` taken out of the cabinet.
To keep the inner removable shell 3 from rotating, when in position, I have in thisin-y stance employed leaf-s ring catches 13 (see Figs, 2 and 3.) T e catches 13 are provided with jaws 14 which are adapted to engage the flange 15 carried by the outer shell, 1. The said catchesv are attached, near thebottom thereof as at 16, to the inner shell 3. The adjacent linner auxiliary shell 4 is cut away, as at 17, to permit the catches 13 to be sprung inwardly when it is desired to remove the inner shell 3. iliary shells 4 remain in position by virtue of their own weight.
It will be seen that the cover 2 moves between the outer shell 1 and inner shell 3, the shell 3 being kept from contact therewith by the spindle 7 and catches 13.
The outer shell or casing is provided with standards 18 (see Fig. 1), the bottoms 19 thereof being provided with openings 2 0, and the ends 21 thereof being provided with openings 22. By means of the said openings I can hang the cabinet on a wall, as at 23 (for instance, Fig. 4), or I can fasten the cabinet to stand in a vertical position by The inner auxplaced in the compartments 5. vpartment, is in this instance, numbered as screwing the standards 18 to a support through the openings l22. Fig. 1 shows the cabinet in a horizontal position.
The cover 2 is provided With a handle 24 for opening or closing the same; also With snap latches 25. The casing 1 carries a lock 26 and the cover 2 a tongue 27 Which is adapted to enter the lock 26, a key being employed in the usual manner.
The purposel of my improved case is to store, and protect disk records which are Each comat 28 to correspond yWith a disk 29 (Fig. 5) of paper or any other material. The disk 29 will be carried in onev of the com art-l ments 5 and have printed or Written t ereupon, as at 30, the name of a selection. The compartment having the number corresponding to the number opposite the selection Will fcontain the disk havmg recorded thereupon from place to place in the event of the said cabinet not bemg fastened down. The dotted lines 31 in Fig. 3, indicatea disk record.
The `object of removably supporting the partitions 6 is to permit of the insertion oftwo or more disks, having recorded thereupon the same selection, in the same compartment, or to permit of the insertion of an eXtra thick disk. n
comprising a casing, a Aremovable shell Within said casing, a plurality of auxiliary removable shells Within the shell first named, said auxiliary shells beingprovided with a plurality of independent compartments.
2. A cabinet ada ted for disk-records, comprising a semi-cy indrical casing, a rotatable cover for said casing, and a removable shell Within said casing, said shell being retainedby the pivot of said cover.
' 3. In a cabinet for disk-records, a plurality of semi-cylindrical shells one .Within the other, the inner shell being removable and provided With a plurality of independently removable isemi-cylindrical compartments, a rotatable cover r'for said shells, said inner shell being retained by the pivot of said cover. y, Signed at New York, N. Y. this 24 day of January 1908.
